Alternative to making Warp Gate modules for cash and paying the 1m for a station, but riskier (that I just heard about last night and have not personally tried yet):
1) Fly around in a fast pod and visit all of the unknown stations until you find an abandoned one instead of a pirate station.
2) Whip out your miner from a blueprint (assuming its too big and slow to risk taking right next to pirate stations) and start salvaging the abandoned station.
3) Don't eat all of it, leave a handful of blocks, but eat most of it.
4) Get out of your ship, go to the couple of blocks that are left, and hit M to buy it. It should now be virtually free since you've removed almost all of the blocks.
5) Drop your faction and build blocks, and start rebuilding your new free station.
