Found the cause of the window saying "Loggin in -name here-" stay open and not letting the game load.
When i made a shorcut the error started showing up, and for whatever reason the shortcut does this about 30% of the time i start this up. No idea what causes this, but just thought i'd report it. When i switched back to the non-short cut and ran the launcher it worked.

from the description you are giving, this is indeed a very strange bug. If you manage to replicate this bug again, could you send in a report after you closed the game (with the CrashAndBugRepoter.jar in the StarMade directory (it basically records the last session of starmade)).
