There is a key to 'select next controller' under the ship build controls. Fly into the general area so you are inside the blocks then use that key to cycle through your controllers while using 'c' to select the computer. You should see the orange block silhouette... if you're lucky

I want to make a joke about vets and microchips. Sorry that does not help.

In build mode, select core with C, then look about. if connected to the core (and not to a logic setup) it will show.
