The old forums and website were rubbish (no offence to my pals BJ and schema).

I'm still here from before the website, and many others. You can track the new websites progress from the day I joined pretty much, so I am the change that you see before you now.
Well at least it had an In house chat system *ahem*

The new forums although alot more aesthetically pleasing almost made me quit starmade due to how hard the transition was and it is until now hard to navigate for someone new to the website. I mean u have forums under the main tabs, then you have forums again in the sub tabs after you click forums... Forumception!!!! It also took me quite some time to find the blueprints page.

Been here since long before the yogstorm and most of the current major servers. The server list looked so different back then and the people on them (At least the ones I visited) were a lot more aggressive. Then the new servers came along and the previous ones were pushed off the front page, I stayed on these now 'backwater' servers out of loyalty causing me to completely miss the formation of the major factions and the early wars.

Whatever happened to the tags we got next to our names if we purchased the game?

After the website changed, it seems that faction politics have gone almost silent what with there being too few recruits. Never got involved personally, but it's kinda sad not seeing random pirates declaring one man wars on great factions and managing to stir up quite a commotion on the forums.
That's the reason I started a war with the TE, stir things up a bit :p Factions in my opinion is one of the most important aspects of not just Starmade, but every single sandbox game to date, look at EVE Online for example. A sandbox allows you do do whatever you want, and what better way to do that then with a group of friends, be it online friends or real life ones, and when those big factions clash, it produces some form of community content ( just gotta restrict the forum flame wars). I can imagine in the future there could be weekly faction news and leaderboard systems where different factions are fighting to be on top. To me thats the kind of meta game that would encourage people to stay, in a game where you can make an impact to the community. To me the most attractive content is not the ones created by the devs, but the ones created by the community.

The majority of users find the new forums far easier to navigate. I can assure you, when I was working on the forums "officially" I pushed to change the star-made.org navbar 'forums' title to 'community', so there was not two forums tabs, unfortunately that still has not happened. I can see how it might be hard to find blueprints, mods, texture packs etc under community content.

As for a chat system, that is now being handled by the forums instead of the main website and one is definitely coming. All the basis is there, just a few things need to be addressed forum side and registry side.

Whatever happened to the tags we got next to our names if we purchased the game?
As you can see we (rather they, but whatever) already have the system in place on the forums for that http://starmadedock.net/help/medals

It has not been implemented yet registry side, so the medal system is on standby until that is completed. The main site team (Miles) are currently working on far more important, secret things, that will excite you when they are released.

Yep, I was here before the website change, as far back as the old weapon system and old graphics. Thems were the days...

A section I do miss was direct access to the wiki from the front page, I felt that it encouraged people to edit the wiki. (which really needs sorting out BTW) I also miss the 'planned features' button which allowed us to see what was confirmed by the developers. We don't get that any more. It would be nice to see what the devs plan to do, and are 'considering' and ones they don't plan on implementing.

BTW numbers are going down but as I've said before and TwoNiner is implying this does not mean the game is dead, every good product worth its salt has its down days, I am certain that we can pull through and laugh about it when we have a fully made game with brilliant features.
    Such as chairs.

I personally don't believe that a slight reduction in active community members is the end of the game. It's still in alpha after all, if it was in full release then it would be worrying, but not now.

The people that stick to the game are those that want to see it grow, and are therefore more likely to make excellent suggestions on features and balance changes :D

Been here since the days of old textures and 3 different kinds of missiles, back when people thought the world was flat ( till schema proved them wrong ^_^).

EDIT: just got back on the forums tho. But I've been faithfully watching from afar. Does that count?

I played just before the yogswarm started up. Used to chat a lot on the old website's inhouse chat, but I don't bother with the new, non-inhouse chat because I feel it kind of sucks.

Not to derail the thread here, but how does IRC suck? It isn't particularly awesome, sure, but apart from the occasional disconnecr , I find it to be a lot better than the old chat thing, which was too small for its own good, and was a bit glitchy for me.

It requires you to be on a separate window/tab when browsing the forums. Meaning I could be reading the forums but have no idea of what's going on in chat vise versa. Also not everyone turns on IRC when they are online, meaning that said person you are trying to contact may be online on the forums but not on IRC, meaning that you can't contact them.

True... But honestly I prefer the tab separation, as it helps me concentrate on either chat or posting specifically.

I liked the old chat more. If you wanted to focus solely on chat, you could go to the chat page and just use it, or if you wanted to scroll through the forums and check new messages as you did so, you could do that too.

I still have never seen the yogcast things, but I think I joined around that time period.

Even now, the game is not done improving and I would love to see what it becomes in the coming...years (judging from the fact that we only reached version 0.1 this year).

    When was the Yogswarm?

I started playing about a year ago, maybe slightly more (but not bye much) when a friend suggested the game. He doesn't play it anymore. I joined the forums about a week or so later.

This game is fantastic, and it's one of the games I've stuck with for the longest period of time - even if I have had periods where I haven't played for a month or two, I keep coming back.

Discussing chat - I had only just started using it more frequently when they changed to this website. While I like the new website more, the new chat I used once and didn't bother again. Can't wait until the in-house one.

I started playing offline in November/December 2013 and online since January.

What the fuck is Yogscast? ;D

Yes, I know what it is. But I didn't watch it ever.
I come to StarMade from http://SpringRTS.com 's forum

July 13, 2013. I will never forget that day. It was madness. xD
I started playing sometime around then then. (Then then. English is a terrible language.) I watched the three videos the Yogscast did, but after I started playing the game.

Try "then, then.", it's still weird as heck, but the comma helps so much. XD Or if it bothers you enough, it can always be rephrased, too. There are always at least ten different ways of effectively saying the same thing when it comes to English. XDD

Back on topic, though, as for myself, I've been around for a while, ever since the leading edge-ish of the Yogswarm, towards the end of June 2013. Interestingly enough, I never did watch the Yogscast's StarMade videos back then. I never could stomach watching all of the way through any of them...I'm not the biggest fan of the Yogscast, tbh. *shrug* I actually stumbled upon the game via a brief mention of it on the forums for a Minecraft gaming community that I was staff on (technically still am, though last that I checked, their servers were defunct). XD Granted, while I've been around for a fair while, I never posted much on the old forums and didn't post at all on the new forums until fairly recently. ^.=.^"

I miss-spelled "laptop", didn't notice until I had posted the comment, and wasn't able to edit it...this simple fact still bothers me to this day, over a year later. >.=.<

I started playing on the 28th of June, 2013. I pre-purchased the game the day after, iirc, which is the day of this comment on Steam. I have yet to regret that purchase in the slightest. :3
