Have you tried verifying all the game files? To do that, open the launcher, click options and repair, search newest, and then click download normal. That might repair a broken file.

For anyone experiencing this issue, try turning off procedural backgrounds as a workaround. Not sure what's causing the issue yet but this at least lets the game load.

I have the same issue, using v0.19556(latest).
Here is a picture of the error, there is more, but it goes off my screen.
I did turn of procedural backgrounds, still doesn't work.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit, Service Pack 1
    Java version 8 Update 72

When was the last time you updated your graphics driver? (Nvidia by the looksnof it.) That might allow us to start narrowing it down.

I've had this issue since the shipyard update. It was in the bugtracker, but was archived.

    Solution: Buy a newer videocard.

I updated my driver to the newest version available at dell.com, and now it works. Thank you!

The error log indicated you're using an Nvidia graphics card, do you know what it is, or what model dell laptop it is? Because the driver on the site may not be the most up-to-date.

I know what the card is, and I got the driver for my laptop/graphics card. Also, starmade works now, so its all good.

Ok, but just as a point-of-reference to people who have Nvidia graphics cards, GeForce Experience Tweaks your Game Settings Automatically is a good product by Nvidia that will automatically search for driver updates. If you're having starmade issues the first things I'd do are
    A) Update Java
    B) Update Drivers via whatever product you use
    C) verify game cache.
