I never suggested that. I prefer to mine for a while then build for a while, that way you don't NEED to store so much material at one time. But that is just my play style.
    Well, two things:

    1) Mining asteroids can be a nice zen relaxation moment.

    2) Rammet is damned near impossible to find on my server on an asteroid, so the only viable source of it really is eating planets. And I hate leaving sloppy half eaten planets or plates littering a system, so I make sure to clean my plate before moving on to another one. I also don't like dumping all the rock and such because it may become useful in the future, and it probably will about 2 releases after I empty out my horde.

So yeah, pretty much every time I build a larger ship or a station, I have to eat an entire planet just for the rammet to make shields for it. So I have tens of millions of things like mattise capsules sitting in storage, and enough planetary rock to build an entire solar system from scratch.

Right now resource gathering is not balanced, to get what you need you get a lot of what you don't need, and tons of what you can't use at all. And since I doubt its going to always be the case that things like icy rock are going to be 100% worthless, I hold on to it for the day when maybe I can use it for something cool.

Which means my station is currently more packed with piles of garbage than three episodes of Hoarders.

Ever try building a ship bigger than 20m across? You'll need at least as many blocks as it takes to totally fill the build areas you have set. Can't tell you how annoying it is to place blocks only to run out at the same time and watch the game stop halfway.
I got the impression that's what shipyards are for, with the implication of eventually steering almost all shipbuilding in that direction.

just realized that now that we can transfer cargo between docks some of the more crazier salvager designs are now viable. Spinning salvage arrays FTW

Why not dump it in the trash?

I personally like to give back to my neighbors and give them free lava in the form of a couple 50x50x50 cubes around there homebase and ships.

Yep I also have a rotator miner in the works as well. :) Going to be fun to use too. :)

We need to give you a terra forming option so you can gobble a planet then produce one with the blocks you have.

I feel like once they fix the issue of manufactured resources and materials (that have not yet been turned into blocks) like refining an 0.01 mass hylat shard gives you x5 o.o1 mass capsules and x10 0.01 mass crystal composites, and stuff like dolom giving you 30 blocks of 0.01 mass dolom capsules leads to cargo inflation.

Once they balance and smooth that out either by upping the weight of shards (conservation of mass violation much?) and lowering the weight past o.o1 of the others will lead to a better system.

(but will also decrease the majestic appeal of trash mountain into trash rolling hills :/ )

The new cargo system, is quite nice. I have a planet cracker, with over 200k in cargo space. This is more then enough to ravage a planet, and some asteroids to boot.

the cargo blocks are also cheap to make. The only real problem, is if you want a massive hoard of ship parts and materials, but this is an easy fix, by making more cargo spots on your main base.

This new system, also forces me to use what i mine. so now i have a giant space elevator around my home planet, and i am adding a planetary docking/defense ring to it as well.

All in all, this has added a great nerf to planetary strip mining, as planets still have tons of resources, but your limit is what you ship can hold.

I have not tried linking this to personnel cargo yet. My understanding, is if i kill a mob, it will put the dropped loot in the cargo bay. This is very nice, as pirates drop great loot for some reason.

ultimately, what we need is a means to recycle blocks. i have tons and tons and tons of stone. what is the point? if a basic factory could craft these into decorative blocks, that would be great, otherwise i would like to convert the stone into either mesh or crystal.

the personal cargo thing is a way of extending your astronaut mode inventory. You can designate any storage chest as your personal cargo and as long as you're in the same sector as it you will have access to it. Not sure if getting blocks via loot clouds transfers this to your inventory or the personal cargo tho, havent tested this.

However i have plans now to develop a station builder ship that makes use of the personal cargo mechanic

yeah, i have not yet tested the loot cloud thing yet. once i get ship combat ready, i will give it a try.

So sayeth every mining company since the invention of the pick axe. The proper term is 'overburden'.
