Buff Pirate Stations Defences

    Hi

    Pirate stations need a serious defensive buff because, wile i do understand this game is in alpha and because of that ballancing isnt exactly the main priority, i find it quite a bit to easy to kill a pirate station with just a few AMC's on a very basic ship. I do know that the rewards from killing pirates will go down significantly in the future but, i still think pirate stations would still reward way to much for little work even if the loot chests were removed alltogether. So i have a basic idea that pushes stations in a direction that i personally would like to see it go. I think that they should be WAY tougher to beat especially by your self (unless you have a "death by lag" sized ship off coarse) and would definatly like it if stations were tough enough that a faction might want to organize an assult in order to saftly and effectivly kill the stations defenders and take the loot for the faction ( if that were the case then i wouldnt want pirate stations loot to be nerfed to make it worthwile for a group of people). I think that this would encorage team play and make factions a more dominant part of the game play (not just a way to prevent people from griefing your stuff) and make it so some cant just get a couple million dollars worth of stuff a few minutes out of spawn.

    How this could be done

    i think all of these ideas would have to be implemented and more to make it work



    Make better designed turrets.

    Several things that could potentially make turrets better are to add some missles and shields to them and definatlly add power so you cant just shot there docking unit and effectivly elimate them from the fight, also make there AMC not all grouped up, the AI cant aim so why not make its guns shoot in a larger more spread out array. you would proabbly have to make them bigger( didnt know if pirates could use your turret designes so i just added this part anyways)

    Better docking placement

    putting turrets facing into the station is pointless, you can just shoot the docking unit and that turret is effectivly dead, instead place the turret facing in a direction were it can actually shoot you and have hull pieces attemting to protect the docking unit+enhancers. Because this would leave a large blind spot, also put turrets on the top and bottom of the station rings to shoot at people just trying to skip past the defenses and hit the faction module. Basically, put turrets where they can actually shoot at you and protect there docking units.



    The station itself

    wile i think the design is really cool but it creats a lot of blind zones from the turrets, also, adding shields to the station would increase its survivability



    Other

    Adding pirate ships to the stations would definatly be cool and increase the difficullty of taking out a station also if it could some how increase the chance of spawning larger ships would be good to because small ships are laughable when controlled by an AI



    To finish off, thanks for reading, im hoping for some fead back. Basically i want to promote team play and eliminate exploits, i understand this probabbly wouldnt get implemented for quite awile because theres other more important things to do.Also, if this has been slready mentioned on the forums then i apologize for making a repeat topic. Mostof the ideas i have for pirate stations becoming more foridable requires the rconomy to be balance so it very unlikly that some one would own a bug ship.



    I had some more ideas but im tired and lazy so, ya. Ill probabblly clear up some stuff later to

    Yes pirate stations definitely need shields and lots of them, as well as shields on their turrets. Currently a small fighter is all you need to take out a station, at least make it defenses. You fly in and get inside the stations rings, then you can maneuver around well enough to disable every turret with a few well placed shots. You\'ll need significant firepower to break a faction block but you can still loot the chests without doing so.

    Pirate stations should ALWAYS have fighter escort craft. This would do the most to stop a single small fighter from being able to best a station.

    Although I would prefer a fully customizable solution to stations such as what we have with AI ships using station blueprints (see my AI faction suggestion) but just beefing up the stations should be an easy quick solution

    I\'ve also heard servers having trouble where no more pirates spawn because all their bases have been wiped out.

    huh, didn\'t know that stations affected spawn rates. could you explain the numbers to me?( # of loaded stations to pirates spawning rates in a percentage per sector)

    buffing of the stations would be an excelent way to get factions to work together, but we must also think of single player aspects as well. in order to take out the \"buffed\" stations, they would need to build or aquire a rather powerfull vessle. or they could simply use a radar jammer and shoot all the turrets, sense shooting dose not deactivate the radar jammer, a small fighter could still be rid of the turrets, once gone, a larger more powerfull ship could destroy the faction module. although i know this stratagy, i doubt it would be common for everybody to know off the top of the head. so, i propose the ability to add custom stations to servers, thus allowing the admins to create custom pirate stations, then import into the generation of the servers first start up, thus allowing more beefy stations for multiplayer, yet giving those who prefer to play alone a chance.

    Actually, what i was proposing was that stations have pirate ships that protect them and that your larger saved blueprints are more likly to be seen at a pirate station because i find the basic isanth IV ( i dont know how to spell it) are kinda useles and i just think it would be cooler if when you were attacking a station that you had to fight of some larger ships that are actually threats rather then a small nuisance.



    i dont know of stations affecting spawn rate, but for some reason i thought that if you built stuff near it ( with in the sector probabbly) pirates would raid you more often. Thats unrelated though.

    Originally i was going to propose that there could be a setting that could toggle upgraded pirate stations on and off and it would by default set as off for people in single player. But i think your idea is way cooler and would probabbly be funner and work better to. Although the default at least needs to have the docking units protected. As for stealth, its harder to use then just placing more shield blocks for a reason, but at the same time i think it would be cool to have block that could only be able to placed on stations and planets that when a cloaked and radar jamming ship came within its range the radar jaming would turn of and the cloaking would fade away as it gets closer.
