I'm not sure I understand what's being asked for here. Can't we already just rotate weapons computers to get side-facing ship weapons? Why would you want special turrets for side mounted weapons?

So that they fire automatically, since it's hard for a pilot to aim weapons that face sideways. Of course, theoretically, NPCs should be able to man side-facing computers, but that seems a bit far-off.

Ah, I've suggested auto-firing weapons in the past (as part of a suggestion about decoupling targeting and ship orientation). It would be pretty difficult to use auto-firing side weapons in the current system due to being in a first-person view of the ship, but it should be trivial to setup a manual activated broadside with the current system and without any docking using an activator that fires weapons periodically on a loop until hitting the activator again (have a T flip flop taking the activator as input as part of a delay loop that fires the weapons).

This may get a lot of flack, but id almost rather have big ships rely on turrets rather than broadsides. I feel like capital ship combat should be mostly dependent on your fighters, shields, and turrets like in StarWars. Also, locked cannons would be awesome and I’m pretty sure that it would reduce calculations if it was implemented. And turrets should have their own shields but should draw from the ships power.

Starwars may have had many forward guns, but I know at least 40k Had wonderful Broadsides. Besides, There are perks and disadvantages to fixed Broadsides, the most notable being that Broadsides are Fixed in Place, and with the planned changes to Cones of fire, will be fairly limited in where it can shot :u

I dunno, Turrets constantly break with each update, constantly clipping, and are quite regularly; Very Ugly. Most large turrets upright turn me off a ship :/ so I would Rather -Not- Have large turrets, and only small turrets dont cut it. Plus it adds a little more variety to ship designs and Tactics, since it can charge a Forward-facing-weapons-only ship while stripping the turrets and just sit next to it * ^* and depending on how its made, it takes up interior space .-.

A Sandbox is a Game of options, and Broadships are a lovely option to have (Even if Schema doesnt give it to us easily, I'm still gonna twist this Game and force it anyways :D cause thats what you do in a sandbox; Build whatever the hell you want * ^*)

    or this:
That is actually what I want * ^* It become oh so much more enjoyable when people just have Forward facing main batteries and only Anti-Fighter for the sides :D

Guarlara vs Invisible Hand and Staff of Charon vs Mother of Invention? Someone needs to make these ships and stage a fight. Now we only need this to happen, I call the Ardent Prayer! Beyond that people CAN man weapons computers and the AMCs fire in the direction of the computers

In case anyone is interested: The cockpit bug is being worked on as issue#91. This will at least enable a ship's pilot to reasonably use broadside weapons (since you'll be able to see were you're aiming).

Good, I can now make a prison ship with cameras work right, broadside weapons would be fun if friends could fire them from weapons computers, this needs to be in the update after the next one! Imagine a broadside from this monster...

    PS. Who is Schema? :P

The Glaive is actually a Bad candidate for a Broadside, because of the Wing mounted escort blocking the rear and the Narrow Bow. Its one of those ships that are meant for forward engagements.

And Schema is the God Cat, creator of out universe *^*
Also know as the Creator of starmade, and head of the Dev team, does almost all of the coding I believe (Click on Staff - Any member of the Schine team is a Starmade Dev)

For fixed dock broadsides, couldn't you build the ship so it had firing ports built into the hull, with the broadsides docked inside the ship, so then the main ship's shields would mostly protect the broadsides (except the protruding barrels, but that could be fixed by just giving the broadsides a few shields of their own).

Is the system I figured out and tried to use :p is fairly touch and go I find, and the Wide Firing Cone is an issue e- e There is no way to get it pointed that way (out the side) with normal docking, so have to chain dock (Which is still a buggy-as-hell mess/It can hit your own ship)

Yes, we still really need directional docks.
