Today, rarely someone talks about Earth as Flat-Earth.
Everybody is happy that the church doesn't prosecute peoples who says something about a Sphere-Earth.

OK, why do we not go one step further and introduce Hollow-Earth-Plane'ts?
It would fix a lot of problems to make Planet-cylinders with holes on both poles!
We also do not need perfectly round planets, they could be flatter on the equator.

    Direct Advantages:
    1. They would be only one wide chunk and can support huge canyons.
    2. You can make accurate planet-maps for your cock'pit with display-blocks and logic
      • Right now getting a sense of north/south sucks.
      • And wirelessly transmitted by the planet-authority when they grant you landing-permission.
    3. A planet habitat could house a tech-civilisation and nature-(civs) both without intermixing these visually.
    4. No orbital bombardment of your ships/peoples.
      • Near poles you could disable gravity to allow ships seamless entry/exit.
    Indirect Advantages:
    1. It is fun to have something you don't know from real life (newbie-attraction)
    2. You can hide stuff inside and play illuminati
    3. You don't need to see boring space all day
