I am struggling to find the option to allocate more memory when I am prompted to do so.

I was told this was located on the startup menu, but I can't seem to find it :(

Can someone please give me very specific directions on how to do that?

    Thanks!

Interesting. How do I get the new launcher?

I have the new startup screen and main menu, but it still shows the old launcher.

I've located the settings in the old launcher.

What would ideal settings be for Maximal, initial, and Early Generation?

I've got a 2010 laptop with a few gigs of ram (I think). 4 Gigs of Ram.

    i7 q740 1.73 GHz Quad Core.
    Nvidia 320M

I'll have a desktop with a beefy 6th gen i7 come Christmas time with an integrated card three times as powerful than what I am sporting right now. The game is playable, though.

What would the ideal settings be?

I'm not familiar with windows 10 at all.

In my case I have windows 7 64bit with 16 GB ram. So i use alt+ctrl+del to bring up the task manager to see what amount of ram my system is using without starmade running. Then I open the resource monitor to see how much memory is on standby, and its showing about 4GB in use with 9.5GB in standby, and about 3GB free memory. So there's at least 9GB for me to mess with and Ihave my max memory set for 4GB as you see in the video posted ( I use the old launcher for playing).

In your case I would check to see what you are using without starmade running and set your max to less than what your system is showing as available or free or however they chose to indicate it in windows 10.

Might not be the best method but it works for me.

How much memory does your system have free with only the operating system running with whatever you have on startup?

It has memory at 3.3 of 3.9 gigs in use.

The settings in starmade are 512, 256, and 64 mb respectively.

i would suggest to use 2048-1024-256 as a setting for 4GB systems.
if this is then crashing you are running a 32bit java mostlikely
