It would be nice if you could have turrets prioritize targets above or below a certain mass, so that you don't end up with anti-fighter turrets trying to kill titans while your main heavy guns try and rotate to hit fighters.

Turret priorities have come up before. And will again.

ship size, ship systems, ship distance, missile types, missile distance, turret types, turret distance, drones, astronauts, asteroid types, asteroid distance, ores, crystals, rocks, flora, fauna, kitchen appliances. I'm sure I missed a few.

To include all possible priorities will require a new gui. Processing all potential priorities will be as lag inducing as collision checks are now.

If you want more control over what your turrets aim at, you should get a friend or faction mate to man the turret for you. If Bobby could handle all potential situations, then why do we even need to log in?

Exaggerating a bit, aren't we ; ) ? Most of the items you name are mutually exclusive. An object is either a ship, or an astronaut, or fauna, or a kitchen appliance.

Collision checks are expensive 3D operations, prioritizing targets is ticking off a list. Barely comparable, even if you combine size, distance, and kitchen appliance.

If you want more control over what your turrets aim at, you should get a friend or faction mate to man the turret for you. If Bobby could handle all potential situations, then why do we even need to log in?
There is some truth in that... but then there is also single player and/or small group PVE where manpower is limited... if my friends could handle all the turrets, I wouldn't even think of having an AI on board.

+1 for Kitchen Sinks targeting option.

In all seriousness, though, this is a good idea, but we need to get the ship score formulas tuned better first.

Another +1 for "target kitchen sinks" option!

This could be implemented without ship scores, using mass only. However, it would probably be better to include mass as a priority option in a more expanded system that includes firepower, armor, thrust/mass ratio, etc.
