    why not allow cameras to rotate their view within the cone of their angle. when zoomed out you could rotate the camera to offset your ship relative to the camera focus, allowing you to see where your going, but not allowing you to rotate entirely to the side such that side cameras are still usefull
    that would be cool, it's just the main concept i am concerned about; to be able to play normally in a 3rd person view.

    Calbiri please post a feature request about this! All that needs to be done is default zoom out happening angled up a little, without the need for using free camera.

    We're going to bump this thing into orbit, even if the collision damage destroys us!

    It is quite weird that there are almost 50 people supporting the thread and still no official response... I want this so badly, especially now that small ships and fighters became much more common in the latest crafting update.

    Q: Will we ever get a real third-person ship view?

    SCHEMA: "A better 3rd person is definitely planned; not the highest priority at the moment."

    Yay +1

    Also proposed implementation of chase cam:
    Home: reset view to default 1st person view.
    End: Default 3rd-person. Shows the entire top and back of the ship in the lower half of the screen, at about 30 degrees.
    Rshift : Zoom. The zoom expands from/contracts toward the core/viewpoint on the ship.
    Lshift: Unlock chase cam location to rotate around ship using the mouse.
    Mouse3: Turn the chase cam to face in a new direction. Double-press to reset to a "default." This faces the camera forward, with the ship between the crosshair and the edge of the screen. The chase cam "location" won't change here, just the angle.

    Also, add an option to have the camera follow the crosshair (so the ship moves onscreen like in OP) or just stick to the ship like a rock.
    Because right now bumping without adding anything to the dicussion will only slowly affect things, let's dicuss the control scheme for doing this.

    So here's my proposal:
    shift scroll out like usual;
    right shift to pan around freely;
    when letting go of right shift it locks the camera in position, and you can fly just like normal from this new viewpoint.
    What do you say?
