A new type of station. Sort of.

    I released this resource a while back and it got me thinking:

    What if a new type of station was added that consist of only dead asteroids?
    They would be very cheap to get and give you no real resources when harvested.



    - Static like a station so you can build on them.

    - Very common but in different varieties. Most likely found in the asteroid belts.

    - Offers no harvestable resources.

    - This could be a coded and generated construct.



    I think this will add a new dimension to the game. Giving people an option to build onto something instead of a planet.

    The same concept could be used to enable static shipwrecks that can be explored too. I like this, a lot.

    maybe have dead mining stations in some of these?

    Overall i like the suggestion, and it would possibly make for some nice bases

    We do have one of the abended stations from the contest that is a ship.

    Asteroids however have one advantage. They are neutral objects. You can build on them however you like.
    Shipwrecks automatically would have a certain aesthetic.

    Tshara after your lovely tube videos on this, I used a tool to convert a whole asteriod field into stations. you can build on them and if you use a salvage beam you can get the resources, but if you faction homebase it you can not as the build block wont harvest as expected.

    So players can have a trade off, homebase protection or mining out resources....just add the blue prints to the default spawn list and instead of a trade station you might get an asteriod. I have to check if its the faction block on the stations that make them go decayed or some other mechanic first before this will work.

    True, but I meant in the sense of random-generation and little-to-no resources when being harvested.

    I like your idea, but I would still like it to have asteroid raw resources. Like taking over a planet, which has tons of raw resources.

    Why not just make it so asteroids are locked in place by default (which also decreases server load caused by asteroids), and so that faction claiming an asteroid protects it from being salvaged just like claiming stations?

    It could work but then you’re essentially taking up a resource spot. Dead asteroids make for a bit of variety and you could even make them bigger.
