I think you are right. Told you I haven't used them in a while. My point was make sure that the modules ARE linked. Then again, if they weren't, I thought that either the computer or anchor threw up warnings about invalid build area or configuration, something like that.

I haven't used shipyards in a while, but the modules definitely did not need to be oriented a particular way. Only the shipyard anchor had a specific orientation.

I built one a while back. It was manually aimed however. The last I heard, one had to use a weapon computer with no modules connected (so to cause no damage to the target) then have the bobby AI set to Selected Target. This however only shot at the centroid of the target, so not very...

On my drones, the Salvage Computer is connected to Storage, then Storage is connected to Cargo. I leave the Storage to NOT auto-pull. That way when they re-dock they automatically unload.
When you issue the Drone Recall command, make sure your drones are in line of sight of their pickup points. They will head straight through your ship to get to their pickup point.
Always buy a radar jammer at the shop and put it on your first ship. This makes it harder for them to hit you in a chance encounter. Allows you a greater chance to get away unscathed. If you are lucky, they might even ignore you.

Hull Regeneration would fit well with an organic or biological ship theme, as in the hull heals itself. Or even a Borg theme, invisible nanites repairing the hull.
