      I think that one of the biggest things that needs to be adjusted is the damage/size/power consume ratios for weapons. Do that, and making effective turrets that don't like stupidly oversized relative to the main ship would be much easier.

      If you're that close, you may as well be using pulse, which bypasses blocks anyway IIRC. And if you made a really, really long beam converging array, then if anyone gets closer it becomes impossible to hit them. So yes, an exploit I suppose, but not a very good one.
