A possible alternative stabilizer mechanic, using an existing algorithm.

No, because it's much less annoying to lay out, and the new power distribution system (distribution priority queue, generation-based power) would remain. Also, technically, the explosions would be a reuse and rebalancing of aux mechanics, so that isn't even an exception :P

A possible alternative stabilizer mechanic, using an existing algorithm.

This one's pretty simple and straightforward, and while I'm not sure about it myself I wanted to see what everyone else thinks: What if stabilizers used a variant of the old power reactor mechanics? Basically, a stabilizer group would have to touch the reactor, and certain stabilizer group...

Literally just invert the stabilizer distances.

BTW, if you guys want systems to be more than a matter of filling up ships, you'll need the mechanics to back it up. Shields would need things like localized projectors, weapons could use a (reasonable) heat mechanic (NOT boxes; distance from convex hull works as long as the normal heat radius...

Literally just invert the stabilizer distances.

I already know what that's like. Basically, build power (until I have as much power as I'll need) and chambers, then build everything else. Not really the point.

Literally just invert the stabilizer distances.

The problem with refitting ships, for me, was the lack of tools... With the new(ish) advanced build toolset I'm honestly happy with the current difficulty of ship refitting. I DO NOT like the way that current reactors work, but that doesn't have much to do with filling or not filling ships. I...

Yeah, I think that's something to do with Schema testing for system scanning or something.

There may well be a noticeable variance in achievable power levels between ships of the same size (volume/former mass), depending on their shape. Does that not count as breaking user creations?

Issues with the 2.0 Power System (Regarding the Goals of the New System)

Nah, if you're building an optimized warship, you will probably want to take one or two weapon chambers and one or two weapon types, not all three. If you're building a replica or something, there's still nothing stopping you from adding more. While it may 'limit creativity,' encouraging ship...

They're not just literally replacing the power generation system with a new one. All the power mechanics are different, and weapons (and everything) cost a different amount of 'new power' than 'old power.'

False binary. Not having the current stabilizer system does not automatically mean an overpowered system with no moderating mechanic whatsoever. In an absolute worst-case scenario, they could simply (and rather trivially) rebalance power reactors so that a reactor blob to run a ship would end up...

      New powersystem, some numbers.

Could someone explain why a sphere is optimal? It seems to me that no matter where you put the reactor in a sphere, the reactor you end up with will always produce less power than a reactor in a ship with some kind of long shape (cylinder, prolate spheroid, or prism of any kind) of identical...

      New Power DEV Thread

Depends on what you mean. If you're asking whether or not they are currently essential... uhm, have you tried the recent builds? Reactors above five blocks do nothing without stabilizers. This is contrary to my expectations, actually; I envisioned that for a given ship size a smaller reactor and...

My two cents on encouraging PvP conflict in a stagnant universe

...Except the full-auto mining would not be invincible, and other PvPers could attack it, meaning defense fleets would need to be assigned to those sectors, which would be neat... however that requires at least an escort command for fleets in addition to the automated mining. (yes, AI is...

Weapon convergence still exists. the focusing center is just offset from your cursor (i.e. it's bugged). Try flying up to a big wall of blocks and shooting at it; you should end up with your weapons converging to hit a point below and to the right of your cursor. And yes, Inner Ship Remotes are...

      Another stupid armor idea

If it is feasible, I 100% support this. It would give armor the buff that everyone wants, while creating expected behaviour (weapons creating dents and craters in armor) rather than unintuitive numerical mechanics. Also, as Aethi Imperial vessels are basically 100% sloped armor, I suppose I...

Dealing with "cloaked alpha OP" fears for the coming meta...

"slapping" a cloak on any ship comes at a penalty of other rather useful functions. Being able to cloak doesn't magically stop you from being susceptible to other people ambushing you from cloak, for starters. Only good scanners do that. You also lose all kinds of possibilities for defensive -...

      devs jumped the gun again?

It's not redacted; there's just no definite date. Apparently there's still some UI work and other bits that they have to get done for the system to be properly playable.
