Why?

Sorry the one in your picture looked unarmed thus I assumed it to be a miscolored version of the one in Episode 1

In SW that version of the ship is unarmed and I highly doubt that was not a planned / made up attack for the pictures

That ship is a peaceful ship unarmed and so forth of course it lost. Challenge the armed version and your Vultures won't be swarming anything except the junkyard

Well if it's ever used I can guarantee no one will make another attempt on your base. Well except for a combined fleet kind of thing.

You could create relay points in nearby sectors around the base with turrets that can shoot 2km then you have this bubble of defense and lag outside and around the base thus the base can be lag free
