So I have seen quite a few people confused on how to upload or download ships. I have decided rather than answer them one at a time on threads irrelevant to this topic ill just post a thread here.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL A .SMENT FILE

Step 1. Download the .sment.

Step 2. I suggest keeping all the .sment files you download in a folder specific to .sment files. You will have to create said folder yourself.

Step 3. Open the Starmade Launcher.

Step 4. Click Launch.

Step 5. Select Mods and Tools, then catalog manager. If you are in fullscreen you may need to alt tab to see the manager.

Step 6. Click Import.

Step 7. Using the file explorer find your .sment file or your folder with the .sments in it.

Step 8. Click it and then import.

Step 9. It should now be findable in your Ship Catalog Manager. At this point you can now start the game and you will find it in the Available Section of your in-game catalog.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL A ZIPPED SHIP OR SHIPS

Step 1. Download the ZIP.

Step 2. Open the zipped folder and copy or cut the ship folders inside.

Step 3. Go to Starmade > Blueprints and paste.

Step 4. At this point you can load up the game as normal.

(While this process is clearly easier there is a chance the Blueprint could be corrupted or damaged.)

HOW TO UPLOAD A .SMENT FILE

Step 1. Save your blueprint in-game.

Step 2. Exit the game and use Step 3 -5 of the HOW TO DOWNLOAD A .SMENT FILE.

Step 3. You should be in the Ship Catalog Manager click the ship blueprint you saved and now click export.

Step 4. Navigate to Starmade > Blueprints > Exported.

Step 5. Find the .sment of your ship.

Step 6. Minimize the file explorer and go to Starmadedock.net.

Step 7. Go to community content and click upload (You must be signed into an account).

Step 8. Select the category that goes best with your file.

Step 9. Select upload content. Use the opened file explorer to navigate to your .sment use the file explorer you minimized earlier as reference.

Step 10. Add descriptions version strings and titles and image icons to explain your ship you can also upload images or use an external image website such as imgur to add the images in that case you want to use the HTML Tag version.

Step 11. Submit and wait for admin approval.

HOW TO UPLOAD A ZIPPED SHIP

Step 1. Go to Starmade > Blueprints and find the ship or ships you wish to upload right click and hover over send to then click compressed Zip Folder.

Step 2. Locate the zip it should be at the bottom of your blueprints folder I suggest you cut it to somewhere else.

Step 3. You can either upload it like the .sment put it on an external site such as dropbox or mediafire or upload it to a thread comment.

Using lists will improve readability. Like so:
Code (Text):
[plain]

Download the .sment

I suggest keeping all the .sment files you download in a folder specific to .sment files. You will have to create said folder yourself

Open the Starmade Starter
[/plain]
The above will render like this:
1. Download the .sment
2. I suggest keeping all the .sment files you download in a folder specific to .sment files. You will have to create said folder yourself
3. Open the Starmade Starter

You download it as is, by hitting the big 'download' button.

What download button? The one where you download the game itself? Because I don't have it in.

Yes, and blueprints(of ships and other entities) are stored inside sment files.

Is there a way to somehow get the data from a .ent file (as far as I understand it, that's the data for an actual instance of a .sment) either converted into .sment, or otherwise imported into the game?
I'm asking because I have a station from an old version of Starmade that only exists as a .ent file in a world backup, that I'd like to import into the current version. Now I could of course download and install an old build, but maybe somebody here knows a simpler solution?

Nope, those are definitely .ent files inside the exported sector .smsec files, at least in the "old" ones I have from 2014.

.ent files are part of a universe's database. each entity has one, and it stores things like faction, bounding-box, block-inventory, permissions, links, etc. In a Blueprint, the information is distributed across the 3 files header.smbph meta.smbpm and logic.smbpl.
however, there currently is no tool known to me, which is able to parse .ent files in a meaningful manner. (It is known that they are written in a specific tag format, and it is known how the tags are constructed, but which tags in the file mean what is not known)

Thanks for the info, even though it doesn't help doesn't mean it isn't appreciated.
I guess I'll just export the sector again from an old version of the game; thankfully those are still available.
