I'd like to see a transparent effect inside the gate frame. Nothing too flashy - just something that says "Hey, there's an energy field here." Maybe someone could just flatten out the pulse texture and display it within the portal frame. That would work well enough.
The OP might be a possible compliment to this already-planned one. We know there's a plan to save a player to a ship on logout, and this might just be the way to do it.
Here's my two cents:
I want to see the player frozen in the statsis tank (skin and all) and a display on the tank with their...
I actually really like this idea. It's better than anything else I've seen so far. It reminds me of the nether in Minecraft, where it's 8 times faster to travel through the nether between two portals than it is to travel between the same two portals through the overworld. I'm not sure if the...
If my idea were implemented, you could kick back and wait a while to get there instead, but it would take far longer than with your gates. Honestly, I think intergalactic travel is purposefully painful to make other galaxies feel genuinely remote. The feel I'd like to have is taking half an hour...
Is the mass capacity of the rail determined by the number of enhancers or by the dimensions of the enhancers? It would make sense to use the number for mass of the connected entity and dimensions for speed in specific directions.
On another note, high speeds could cause issues and I'd suggest...

I've been using this for Minecraft for years and for Starmade since I started playing it. If you're as sick of the buggy, asymmetrical build helpers as I am, this might be just your thing. (at least until we get a fix for build helpers to make them symmetrical)
I may use this to hide several otherwise awkward antimissile turrets on one of my next builds. The thing is, I can't do that unless they can deploy in a split second.
Someone showed this to me just a little bit ago and it's really cool! I'm looking forward to the update so I can make some cool stuff with rails.
It got me thinking though: will there be a way to set the speed of rail movement? I hope so! This looks great for machinery, but for an elevator that...
I like these ideas as they set the stage for players to act as privateers in a bustling universe, much like Vega Strike which I enjoyed so much years ago. This gives exponentially more viability to independent play styles and single player.
Actually it does lie. ;) "Up" is an arbitrary reference direction that only exists by necessity in the game engine.
It might be nice to have a control to align pitch and roll to the galactic plane and standard "up" orientation. Despite this being only a reference point in space, it has its uses.
