I just have a single concern with this turret mechanic: Would both segments share the same stats? For example the barrel section would mostly contain weapons, so would it share shields with the turret's body?
I don't think that I saw this adressed anywhere, if it was I missed it.
I call complete bull on the "I have your ships" part. Do you have images to back up your claims? Because seriously, if you truly do it should be easy to assemble them and take a nice little fleet picture, a matter of 5 minutes really.

Ugh, this thread was created from before the current shield balance.... As it stands now, shields scale linearly and the time it takes to drop 1 shield with 1 weapon block is around 4-5 seconds.

But uh.... my assault turret alone has slightly over 100k mass, with the hull of the main ship currently sitting at 150k mass. You may want to review the minimum mass since most things you'll be getting here will most likely be over 400k mass.
So, is there a way to shoot down/repel cannon rounds and beams? Cause if not then it's pretty freaking unfair to missile users... It will also encourage making super big arrays to fire as many missiles as possible in order to be sure of getting a hit, which is meh.
