      Automatic Salvager

Yeah, shape doesn't matter but it's usual to make lengthwise lines and form the outputs into a checkerboard for a denser pattern. You can do it other ways, eg with vertical lines that output at the top, each row a little higher than the row in front of it, and still produce a dense beam pattern...

      Game: strengths and weaknesses

I've really only played Starmade and From the Depths much, so here's my thoughts on the differences. Multiplayer / PvP: Starmade wins hands down. It has a working, well-developed system with persistent servers and usable, though not amazing, faction mechanics. FtD only baarrreely manages to...

[Dev Build] Weapons 2.0 impressions from testing the basic 3

      That's already in devbuild, actually.

      Automatic Salvager

Link the salvage computer to a cargo storage (the safe-like block, not the crates or open cargo space) and it'll do this. Furthermore, you can link the cargo and a docking module, and dock to a ship or station's rail load/unload which is also linked to a storage, and move cargo around...

Does people still play this game?

I'm playing creative devbuild these days because testing is kinda fun, and I feel like maybe my bug-hunting, critique, and suggestions are helping to some small extent.

Pocket Dragon drone sloop [devbuild] 2018-06-08

This is a small but potent attack drone intended for fighting in swarms via fleet commands; thus, it lacks much in the way of jump mobility, and has very little accessible interior, but it can be piloted if need be. The Pocket Dragon is armed with a primary thermal ray and a secondary x-ray...

      Reactor Chamber effects

Apologies for resurrecting this thread with my fell necromancy, but since it's a sticky I suppose it's kinda allowed. I've just had a few thoughts on chambers that occurred to me at once. 1. Reactor power boost, as it is now, is strictly worse than simply making the reactor bigger. It could be...

[Weapons Update] Missile Turning Rate inverse to damage

I'm not entirely sure about my supposition that missile turn rate is a function of missile speed, as a disclaimer, I'm just thinking that that's how it works but I don't have any solid proof or confirmation yet. It seems like missiles should work that way.

      Starmade memes

Are you sure it's really a competition? Why would it be? Players can play and enjoy both of them, you know. Actually, if someone plays one spaceship-building game and enjoys it, doesn't that make them more likely to try other spaceship-building games too?

[Weapons Update] Missile Turning Rate inverse to damage

Turning rate should depend on, and be proportional to, missile speed right now (as of current devbuilds). The fastest guided missiles in devbuild are missile-beam with a 0% beam ratio - increasing the beam secondary ratio ups the missile's damage but slows it down: 0% beam secondary fires a...

[Dev Build] Weapons 2.0 impressions from testing the basic 3

Lockon is currently bugged as of yesterday's build, but should be fixed in a day or two. Yeah this is annoying. As far as I'm aware it's not - projectile size is based only on its damage right now, so neither beams nor cannons can be shaped by shaping their blocks right. I'm not sure if this...

      Make Integrity Great

Interesting idea, but bear in mind that more exposed surface area (even if it's behind glass or covered by a spaced shell) means more textures being rendered and therefore more computer resources consumed and worse performance. We shouldn't give explicit gameplay reasons to make the game harder...

      Sparrow packet shuttle 1.1

Ask not the sparrow how the eagle soars; it does quite well on its own, thank you very much. Originally conceived as a ship's boat but instead outfitted with a powerful jump-drive system, the tiny Sparrow is capable of rapid travel to even the most distant locations carrying critical...

Player-submitted NPC assets for the universe update

I think that after the weapons update is released and where we want it, we should try to start a wave of community submissions for NPC ships and stations. This could be fun. Of course, we;d need to define standards for each NPC faction so the assets will typically look like they belong, and some...

PVP focused gameplay is the majority over all the other playstyles

This is just as good for the PvP community as it is for the pacifists, because some kind of profit and trade would mean more reason to fight.

[Weapons Update] Missile capacity blocks should have inverse effect strength with missile strength

[Weapons Update] Missile capacity blocks should have inverse effect strength with missile strength

I'd like to suggest, in conjunction with these - especially missile magazines being linked to individual weapon computers- 4. AI holds off on firing missiles until the capacity is fully recharged, otherwise adding capacity to turrets won't change very much.

      A change to charge cannons

I like the thought of C-M being either more explosive than other cannons, or having a fragmentation effect - eg. the shot splits into several smaller shots in a wide cone, either as soon as it breaks one block (impact fragmentation) or when it reaches a certain distance to the target (proximity...
