This is a topic I have been thinking about lately as well. The best I could come up with, was similar to Sven's idea. Station USE to be OP. Now they just feel useless, unless you really REALLY like the look of one and want to buy it and live in it.
Hum... I may have thought of something that could work.
Goals:
1. Make factories have less annoying micro. (More Important mid-late game)
2. Improve the ability to find what you are attempting to craft (Important in all game stages)
3. Allow factories to have lots of options and creativity...
I wouldn't mind having the factories condensed. But if we had factories that were a bit more... distinct with what they made I might not mind ether. As an example, an "Armor" factory that only made hull and all the standard and advanced armor. An Effect factory that makes the effect computers...

I too have struggled with this issue my friend. having an "Opaque" setting for glass in build mode could be a cool addition. Like a slider from 100% - 0% or something.

Your spawn location is your location when you logged off as far as I know. SO you would be left out in the middle of no where.

Hum. I like the idea, but what about working it something like this:
1. Antenna Computer + Antenna = Scan System for things
2. We combine the weapon/effects to make diffrent scan types.
Examples:
Antenna + Missiles = Current Scanner
Antenna + Cannons =...

Is the "Front" and "Top" of the base, the same as it is for the cannon? if the cores are not facing the same direction then it can screw things up. I remember someone had a core on their guns that had a separate up/down from the base and it failed.

AI on weapons. The base will move with the guns. I'm not sure if adding AI to the base would cause issues, but even if it didn't its a waste of resources to add a block that doesn't serve a purpose.
As far as I know, you cannot have multiple Bobby AI's controlling the same base. It ether doesn't move (bobbys trying to go in opposite directions cause zero movement) OR it moves in a very random and glitchy manner.
