An analysis of the relationship between planets, faction interactions and resource acquisition.

In SM, there's no reason you have to have a static homeworld; it's not like SW or real life where it takes a lot of effort to move everyone around. It'd be a lot more convenient to just move your invincible homebase location as you cut a swath through space, leaving behind useless sectors and...

Read by Council Hinder design theft

That's silly, IMO. We don't have to drive back from Florida up to Pennsylvania at the dealership where we bought our car - or worse, the manufacturing plant in Detroit or Japan or wherever - to repair our car. We just have to go to the nearest mechanic, which in SM is the closest shipyard. I...

An analysis of the relationship between planets, faction interactions and resource acquisition.

Nothing wrong with a large faction becoming static, IMO. Under a well-designed faction systems, a static faction like that might become a target for other factions, who would be able to take their immense amount of resources.

Pirate spam and frame rates death.

Yes, they could, and if SM wasn't in alpha, and those were intended to be the default stations for the game when it releases, then they would have already. But the fact is, they're doing a full revamp of all the stations - IIRC the Trading Guild ones are already done - and seeing as this IS...

How to fast travel at stations? Suggestions?

Rails functioning as an airport-style people-mover actually sounds like a really good idea. Someone make a suggestion topic for that...

This sounds good. However, for something like this to be done, first ships need to carry a native design with them for shipyards to repair to. Otherwise people couldn't repair damaged ships they bought from other people.

Planned Uneven Resource Distribution and Density: Getting the Wheels Turning

Yeh, it's good news... The thing is, this is one of the few suggestions (mine or otherwise) that I really wish we didn't have to wait to get. The game needs a boost, and this would make for at least half of one; the other half is something to actually do with our ships, but I think that's...

      Should Chain Drives Remain?

Personally, if I want to escape I usually do it the old-fashioned way - punch in Overdrive and Ion (which all Aethi utility ships have) and run like hell. Jumping can wait.

      Should Chain Drives Remain?

Ironically the scenarios you're talking about have to do with PvP as well, as when more faction mechanics are put in there will probably be a lot of scenarios where people end up jump-racing to get the advantage over another player. You have a point, though; the question is more properly stated...

      Kupu's thread

Well, glass, yes. But if you have opaque wedges, a thin hole or whatever where the wedges have open sides facing each other (difficult to explain) the light will not go into and through the gap.

      Should Chain Drives Remain?

Precisely. To be fair, that's a bug. Having five sectors loaded at (4224, 52633, 10242) should ideally be no different from five sectors loaded at (2, 5, 20). It's not like the game has to load the intervening sectors, or even go through them to get the data - the needed data location is...

      What's new in dev build

      Race gates. Old news.

      Should Chain Drives Remain?

Have you seen the design that's up on SM Dock? For larger ships, it is potentially 300x smaller (and infinitely more power-efficient) than an equivalent standard drive.

      What's new in dev build

The first two or three builds tend to be like this; after that the big showstoppers disappear and we can start properly hunting for issues.

      What's new in dev build

New dev build includes (bugged) lighting system changes (Is supposed to fix weird shading on non-cube blocks, but also accidentally turned all wedges red) and a main menu.

      What's new in dev build

...Charge beams... so, just pulse beams with even more damage and that annoying jump drive mechanic? Only any good for Ion weapons, really.

Recognized Fleet Maintenance (Repair and Resupply)

But not impossible. If doors can become tangible or intangible based on their activation bit, surely blocks can become active or inactive based on their damage bits.

      What's new in dev build

Well, the most recent dev build as of right now, which is from around the beginning of the month, just has support for the crowdsourced translation system. Schema is currently working on something but evidently it's some kind of suuuuuper seeeecret. Personally I would have to assume that it's...

Read by Council Make Jump Drives a Capital system and give Regular Ships Warp

Sven_The_Slayer Well, perhaps not a whole galaxy of range. I think the idea is that you could have a massive supercarrier, or a mothership and a fleet, gather them all at a staging area, and jump the entire fleet into a battlezone a few systems away. Basically, turn jump drive from the standard...
