Starmade already has a built in progression system- You, the player, learn more about optimizing systems, high level systems such as docked reactors, drones, and chaff, and armor placement as you play the game. There's no need for an artificial tech tree system.

Doomcubes are no longer the peak of eficiency. They tend to suffer from generally lower armor ratings, and have weaker directional armor due to it being more costly to coat all of the surface area of the cube.
