New players don't NEED AI, though. A new loner player can run their miner solo just fine.
The turret and drone meta has absolutely nothing to do with the current faction system. The current faction system needs reworked, yes, but that won't fix these balance issues.
Remote turret control...
I have proposed other solutions to fleet spam. Fleets have their own weaknesses (and advantages) compared to a turret boat already. They're not the topic of this discussion though. This is about power balance on a single ship.
As kulbolen pointed out, I think you misread my post.
There is...
Yeah, no. Combat between large ships happens almost entirely beyond the ranges where you can effectively hit specific spots on an enemy ship on purpose. Most turret heavy ships only start to eject their turrets after having taken heavy system damage already.
Nope. AI can fire all weapons...
Pilots includes NPC pilots.
Fleets do not fix the balance of large factions versus small factions. The only reason this appears true right now is because most major large factions do not use fleets.
I already covered this. Make planetary atmospheres disable weapons. We need this anyway to...
It is a problem that one could have troubles providing crew for a small, PD heavy boats. This could be solved by allowing one NPC to control multiple turrets if those turrets are set to target missiles, or perhaps allowing for anti-missile turrets to be automated without NPCs. I would think any...
Ohh, I see now, each of those is one turret, not two. The whole thing turns, yes? I get it now. Very interesting design. I thought each of those little things was a turret stuck to a fixed wall, not that each group was a turret.
This looks a lot better than the last ship you showed off, but I have to ask about the practicality of the sideways turrets. Won't they be pretty useless for hitting things in front of the ship?
How so? Fleets would still function the same in combat and for most things like unloaded movement. Unless you were dumb and overextended and had a deficit of food or credits, it wouldn't even be something you need to manage very often.
Not a difficult thing to accomplish. Difficulty in making...
I have been doing some brainstorming on how crew could halt a growing meta which I believe is harmful for the game, while also encouraging warfare and expansion between factions without allowing factions to grow too rapidly.
This suggestion has three main pillars.
1. Every Ship Needs A Pilot...
Eh... for logic, maybe. I don't think doing this for systems is a good idea at all. Every system block on a ship should be tangible. This isn't like effects, which boost a system, because they can be destroyed.
Word of advice, don't get attached to any systems you build. They can and will be broken. Your hulls? Your hulls will always be good. Save your empty hulls before you put systems in them so you can easily put new systems in in the future.
If your ships are only systems, sucks to be you. Maybe...
No one goes on OAS controlled servers because they are universally terrible. GenX is a shithole with hundreds of bizarre and infrequently enforced rules, plus it has terrible performance, as does Briere.
Sure
What?
The only thing close to this is Nastral accidentally deleting the Trident faction on LvD when he was trying to delete another faction, and he wasn't even in Vaygr yet when that happened iirc. And Vaygr wasn't the faction that blew up the Trident base after that happened, it was...
And how do you determine the difference between a turret and a docked entity? What prevents me from making a docked hull that's just docked to a turret dock? AI? What prevents me from just having the AI block off? Would you have shield sharing be 100% until I turned my AI on, at which point it's...
As opposed to yours, which is a garbage can without the thrusters or the dress?
How is Dovan's recruitment status? Or status in general? I haven't seen you guys anywhere in ages. Have you considered LvD? It seems to be where all the action is lately.
Your ship is 50% advanced armor and you're wondering why it takes a huge amount of thrusters to get it to accelerate and move quickly?
If it is heavily armored, yes. I have personal experience fighting some ridiculously fast ships in the 80k mass range that have little to no armoring but can...
