Just noticed this: no word on asteroid respawning/economy in general? For me, that's the one thing that stops me from playing (survival) multiplayer. Can we expect some updates on this topic in the next versions?

You have to count the amount of slaved blocks for dps calculations anyway (for every shot). I doubt it would be such a strain on resources to just scale the sprites according to block count.
Yeah, but then which rasterization method would you use? Naive? Bresenham? Double-step incremental? They each may produce different lines with the same endpoints in some situations. Will there be a dropdown menu for choosing? I mean check out the german article on that topic on wikipedia. Shits...

Then why have multiple galaxies in one game in the first place? There has to be some incentives to travel there, and how would they look like? Also, in a multiplayer scenario, it would kind of divide the server's playerbase into multiple groups and keep interaction between the groups minimal.
Even if you gonna scrap that building, I think it looks very nice. It sounds a bit like you study or work in architecture ;)
