Do you think we want small npc ships with 30+ layers of armor in front? Do you think it is possible to make armor work without putting armor on a ship? Do you think buffing thin armor layers wouldn't make small ships unbearable tanky?

We actually tried that first and I am pretty sure we would still add it if it would work. Having the ships hp bar reflect the state of all systems is preferable to just the reactor.
There should be an update for dev build that has newer config values that probably fix the armor situation. Also I'm pretty sure you have to use the dev build because if I remember right there are some changes to the calculations (by schema) that are needed for it to work. I don't think they...
Just a friendly reminder that the configs in the dev build are always a bit outdated. If you find any weird behaving things you should consider testing it again on the quickfire server.
Tbh I have no idea. Saber seems to do a lot with KSP these days and goes to space themed trips with attached streamers. The main issue at the moment is that we are still in the process to work on the balance with the quickfire config, so running a contest doesn't make much sense if the ships end...
I would say the the proper way to compare ships are resource cost. But that is a bit complicated. Might get more common once survival is more than just clicking asteroids.

Yeah armor is currently too strong which is a weird problem that starmade never had. We're still trying to get armor to a point where it scales better for different sizes. Shield adjustmenst will likely follow to bring them on equal level. Things in general still change a lot.
