If you build on CBS they don't have pirates at all. You can also alternatively disable pirates in SP or just make a habit of God-Moding yourself on every login.

Yup people found it works very well for hangar shields as a result. Also unfortunately for your hyperdrive the reactor purple sticks will be removed in the next update. (Mainly because they're an eyesore and complicate power stuff even further.)
