Just got the game a few days ago, seems like fun, but I am having a few issues.

    1) I build a ship to go mine the nearby asteroids in the starting area, out of the blue, it says I died, and I respawn, states core overheated, and I am never able to reach it in time to stop it from blowing up, what on earth causes this? I am just happily mining, and BOOM! Not flying into the asteroids or anything.

    2) If I place 4 ssalvage beam structures connected to a salvage computer next to each other, shouldn't I get four beams? I can't figure out how it works, sometimes, I get 1, othertimes, if I space them apart, I get 3-4. Display bug?

    3) For the starting mining ship, what would be a optimal design? I just buy a few more salvage beams and go for it.

Sounds like a missile. One of the pirate stations has a long range lockon missile, but due to bugs, missiles don't render if the station is not loaded (they are invisible and unstoppable). Try use /God_mode [name] and /change_sector [x] [y] [z] for looking for that station.

You can group weapons together to create a more powerful mean. When they were side-by-side, they were counting as 1 group, and thus fired 1 stronger beam. Groups are considered connected if any of their 6 sides are touching the same block type.

This bit I'm not sure on, but there was a thing a while ago in which some players made some good day 1 salvager ships. I'll go look for those, see if they can give you an idea.

If you havnt played much yet .. just delete that world and start over again.
Then check with "p" the galactic map and make sure no stations are in the vicinity ... and stay clear of any station unless you are ready to die ;)

Oh, 2 sectors? Yeah, I know I had one station pretty much next area over because I went there and, well, I died a fiery death.. :P

So, if this happens, its probarly a missile smacking you up? Are there any ways to build at the beginning a AMS?

wont help you ... the station fires at least 4 missile strikes ... and it repeats firing them ... you have no chance to survive in the beginning.
(and there might be a bug that gets you killed even if you could stand the impact)

so if there is a station close to your single player start shop ... just start a new universe.
or join a multiplayer server ... there at least might only be another player trying to ruin your day ;)

Yes, space stations up to about Christmas were little rings, with 8 turrets, which you could sit at 1.4km from and pick turrets off with missles then salvage the whole station. Then they had a competition and a set of 4 player-designed stations made it in, and now they tear smaller ships to pieces. :)

For your starting ship, I tend to prefer number of beams over effectiveness of them. I usually start my day 1 launches with 9-15 beams. If you want to improve their effectiveness, you can always double the number and make them all 2 boxes long.
