Do Asteroids Respawn?

I was thinking about looking for a good system and colonizing one that has several asteroid fields for creating my station.

But do asteroids respawn ever, and how often?

Yeah, asteroids respawn. I'm not sure how often, but I don't think it takes too long. If I recall correctly however they won't respawn while you're in the same sector as they are.

Yes they do respawn, but the mechanic is broken in a way.
They do respawn in there last saved form. they get autosaved when the sector unloads or the save interval hits after they got altered in any way.
That causes them to shrink each time they get mined. Down to maybe one block beeing left alone.

(could also be that it is a not intended feature at all. Dont know)

It can be changed in the server.cfg file, but that'll only affect your singleplayer universe.
