untill people are active on the dock i would like to suggest limiting the vote feature. seems to be a habit of some new people to just downvote stuff and never post anything ever again. i mean we have these trophies right why not tie one of them to the ability of writing reviews?

You are talking about reviews on Community Content I assume? There is a report function that is put in place to remove spammy reviews, just report it and a mod will clean it up if it is not a legitimate review.

I agree with your idea of maybe limiting certain things in regard to community activity (you have to have at least 1 posting to earn the right to vote...) although i guess with the new moderation rules (double) accounts with the sole purpose of down- or upvoting content should be banned anyway.

    BUT:
i guess you are complaining because of the 4star review of your Nightmare?
The one word reviews (and there are also a lot of other stupid reviews out there) are a nuisance but the problem here is that everyone regards 4 stars as harsh critique or as an insult.
The nature of the current community rating system, where most of the people either vote 5stars or not at all, makes 4 stars look bad. I do not see any way to improve that situation but in relation to the old system the current one is lightyears ahead.

I agree; this is a really petty reason to propose new limitations to the system.

Going off of what Nuke said, when everyone rates a five, that diminishes the rating's value. If you're really that broken up over the review, PM him and ask for input.

True under the circumstances right now you either give a 5 star rating or none at all to not look rude. THe guy though just had a fresh account nothing posted yet and then just "ruins the average". So why not make sure people first get the Keeps Coming Back (30 messages posted. You must like it here!) Trophy before they are allowed to vote? i don't really care about that ship i mean it ws my first ship the core is way of center and such i could not care less BUT seeing some 5 stars dropped on stuff that is obviously inferior made with less love to detail yada yada yada shows me, we maybe should ensure people vote, which already have built stuff and know the system here for a while.

I don't care to much for that ship, it was the first i made and made public so that is ok. Still the rating system is kinda misused already so i really would appreciate newbies first watch and learn before doing any voting.

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about? One guy gives you 4 stars and a change needs to happen?

If you make good content, no one is really going to care about your "average" rating.

I don't think people should have to post here, just to rate content. We could require more words to be written to issue a review, however, that already is being looked into.

Remember, too, Drakkart, even including we noobs, smart/wise players can perceive the difference between a valid review/opinion and garbage. (I have not viewed the review in question, btw.)

I generally refrain from reviewing at all (I think I made exactly 1...) even if I like something, & especially when several reviews have already been given -- there are only so many ways to say "good stuff." And there isn't much point in saying "that's really mediocre." And why bother exerting the effort to comment, "Don't like it."? And who really cares about my opinion anyway? Unless there is a specific purpose (eg. "everything is good but this one thing about your submission would make it better"), silence is golden. But that's just me...

In my opinion, you should only rate something if you've got feedback to give. Otherwise, just like the content instead. Problem with this is that content is rated by stars only, I think. DukeofRealms , can you confirm?

I think that reviews should be honest and give feedback. I would rather have 2s 3s and 4s that give insightful feedback about why they think it deserves that rating than a bunch of fives because it is the nice thing to do. I for one want feedback because I want to get better. Not every piece of advice or opinion is going to do that... but certainly a slapped on 5 just cause "I don't want to be rude" doesn't really help anyone. In my opinion thats what the like button is for.

At the end of the day though I am far more concerned with the amount of downloads than what any one user might have to say.

the only time I'm ever concerned about down votes is when the poster gives my ship a lower grade cuz of client related glitches/problems with loading it in. Basically things that I can't control.

In my honest opinion I think it's good like it is right now, EXCEPT for the fact that we can't change the rating we gave someone. Many and I mean MANY times like Crimson-Artist said, people are given 1-4 stars because the builder forgot to put a gravity module or something. When the builder releases an update, that rating still has an impact, which I think shouldn't be the case.

if I forget to add something as vital as a gravity unit to a ship thats my fault and reviews that tell me that I have no problem with, I can easily fix that with a update. I actually welcome ppl to be critical of my designs so I can become a better shipwright.

What I meant was that when a person gives my ship 3 stars and leaves a comment like "oh, Nice ship but I can't load it in for some reason." its not a review of my abilities as a designer but most likely a problem on their end, ultimately something I can't control. That rating they leave will stay forever and may lead to people browsing my catalog to get the wrong impression of that ship.

While its not perfect, its actually pretty OK, the rating/review system could have some improvements. Perhaps a way for ppl to verify a review similar to the way steam has the "X amount of people found this review helpful". And if a certain amount of people invalidate a review the rating gets nullified.

I see it the same way. I think maybe the community should think about rating things a bit more critically because as it stands there are so many 5 stars and un-rated ships that the ratings themselves became fairly useless outside of "this ship is ass" or "could be anything from acceptable to amazing". I myself am hesitant to give low ratings often (with justification as well) because all in all the community made the system less useful than it should be, so why even bother?

I think the system would be used more accurately if it allowed 10 as the maximum or used half-stars as well. I think a lot of posters just don't want to be that guy making the low star posts. 7s don't look as bad as 3s for instance and I think more people would be a bit more conservative with their ratings that way. I'm not asking for everyone to be held to some tight review standards or anything, just try and be more accurate for the sake of helping the builder learn what they're doing good and what they're doing right. Additionally, maybe have prefixes to content so the author's intentions for the ship's role is defined rather then going off a general view of what a ship should be.

Or just get rid of numerical ratings all together and have just text feedback. I swear, these stars, upvotes, and all the other fluff just complicates matters.
    ex: this whole thread.

I dont see why having 4 stars on your content even matters. 4 stars just means it is good, but has room to improve. I find it kind of sad reading this thread and seeing that everyone has to post 5 stars or nothing at all >_>. What happened to honest opinion?

When I see things on CC, I consider things that are 4 stars better than those with 5, since a 5 is so damned easy to get once you get a small following that I just don't trust it.
