Hello,
I will be quick about this: the big ships require far too much walking to get from point A to point B, and if you want to have a ship capable of either doing 5 dmg / second or salvage rather quick, (also I think the salvage beam was made broken after the update which make it follow a ticking rather than stary and stop at any time), you'll need a kinda big ship. Of course, you'll need more bloicks to make a ship, but the cockpit (not the camera) will have to be bigger raported to the other stuff than it was previously. But the space taken by the systems will be smaller, allowing for (possibly) more blocks to be loaded and more size-realistic ships to be built. Right now, you can easily have a ship bigger than a planet and it can't do much damage to anything, even if you tried to make it as OP as possible...
Now, the size may be just some leftover from the fact that not many tried alternatives for this and most of the voxel-games out there have the same 2-blocks-high playermodel and 1 block = 1 meter, but that doesn't really fits that well in the space theme, I think. And the size of the projectiles (rockets, rays, beams, bullets) would remain the same, giving it a better ratio projectile_size to weapon_size.
Either that, or make the player twice the size (camera included).
Have aq great day!
