Quick poll. Rate Star made's community, and feel free to post why. Just curious to see how we see ourselves. 1 is the worst (Like WoW) 10 is the best (Dunno what game has a great community).

Personally, I rate it a 6/10. People are quick to anger if they don't like your ideas, and generally fail to read a post all the way through. It's populated with idiots, "blueberry cookies" (To quote Tomino Sama), and bronies. However, it also generates great creativity, with YouTube videos and ships littering the forums. If you find a good server, it's not so bad, but it seems the larger servers look like the move "Idiocracy."

Honestly I would use Tomato-sauce as the poster child for what I feel is the largest issue with the community. Servers themselves need to fully understand how to wield the power of the config though, since we get way too many complains about systems being pushed past what they were tested for without balancing the other numbers.

Could also use more diversity, but less segregation in the player base.

    and bronies
You mean like the Moderator, WarSong? Or the leader of one of the older factions, Luna?

Really? I'd give it a high 8-9. Mostly due to the chillness of the mods, I've gotten away with shit I'd never get away with on most m+ rated games...developers are active in the community too, which is too rare. I often feel like I'm treading on eggshells when talking to mods and devs on other sites, not so much here. They're just part of the community here.

Mostly people get mad if you fail to look deeper into the game, and expect everything on a gold plate. Granted the wiki needs work but if you call the game crappy because you can't be arsed then go away. I don't mean noobishness, I mean not looking for repeat threads, suggesting late game stuff early, I WANT THIS NAO etc...

Also something to bear with, crappy attitudes get crappy attitudes back. The only time I've seen the forums freak out is when people come into a thread with 'this f***ing game sucks DICK and I hate you and F* all of you' etc etc. Not naming any names of course. But it happened a few weeks ago...aaaand we all laughed at him. So that was fun.

Servers? Don't play on them. Maybe that's where most beef is at. So I'm rating forum only.

CyberTao I don't wanna start anything, but from what I've seen, bronies have some seriously childish attitude issues online. I haven't seen it happen here but most communities I've been to? Their shittiest members are all bronies. Can't really explain it, but it's like entitlement mixed with brattishness. If you're old school then think what furries were like pre 2006. Obviously, and I must stress this, #notallbronies so no hate please.

Since I've enever heard this term in this use before, I'd like to request a short explanation as to what it is referring to.

And I agree with ToyotaSupra , most crappy attitudes result from another crappy attitude. The ability to outright ignore even the worst personal insults is both rare and very useful. But I've seen it several times throughout parts of this community, much more often than in other communities.

The issue there is we don't have any issues with bronies, and since a moderator is a brony, does that not make it easier to beat them back into line? Plus, I assumed the rating was of the community as it sits right now, and most of our issues are from drama-queens, not any kind of TV show cult, so I don't really see the need to point them out unjustly here. Bad first impressions are always bad.

I believe that is from VonDoom's Starfade, in the first episode. Is how I know it at least.

I rate you a lame/10, and the majority of the older community a 10 outta fucking 10.

Also noobs (probably 90% of the 'idiots') never become nice if you don't treat them nice. We were all noobs once.

I'd give it an 8/10. I've been here a long time, and the community has improved. There's a lot less angry screaming about spies, for one. The removal of Ridik from the community basically boosted us a whole point.

Main community issues seem to be (to me)
    1. Newbs raging because they don't understand how to do something or because someone shot down their newbish suggestion
    2. Moderators occasionally favoring one faction over another (not gonna name names)
    3. Certain jerks (not gonna name names) in chat who seem to enjoy creating arguments

8/10 for me. There's definitely some sore spots, but it's good to keep both positives and negatives in mind, especially when doing silly comparisons. People argue, people agree, people are mean, people are nice. Overall the percentage of people who positively contribute to Starmade is staggering, and people who come here with the goal of (somehow) harming Starmade or people within it's community are pleasantly scarce.
Compared to some other places on the web, I feel like moderating here is being a butler to a high school as opposed to 1-man busting a drug cartel.

Do-do I count as an older member? Can I get a badge for this?
    Anyway:
Too bloody right, top quote right there for real. It's like when people give learner drivers shit for being new, well what the heck are they supposed to do? Be instantly experienced? Not how it works. Gently eeeeaaasssee them into it, I tend to recognise the noobs and I cut them some slack because HEY, I still remember my noob days and most of them could be easily posted to /r/cringe.

High schools have butlers now? What rich and proper posh high school did you go to? Only equiv to a butler in my school was a dinner lady who would whack you with a big spoon if you gave her any chat back...

Anyway, glad you don't have to mod out a crap forum. You want a bad mod job? Sign up in WOW like OP said, or be community mod on War Thunder...

    Sorry for off topic BTW

That's a dumb idea, you want to prohibit people from joining up so they can ask for help in a thread or post their shipyard? please Snk, lol.

    At least a month?

People don't join the forums on day one, some people play for weeks in singleplayer before ever coming to the forums. You don't need an account to play afterall. And those that do sign up to the forums? Not all of the partake in any kind of discussion really, it's basically saying that 1 lurker who doesn't play might have more value then the guy who played for weeks and just decided to join (i.e. Me when I first joined).

Maybe someone should just make a stickied thread in suggestions, with confirmed and popular topics listed and linked. But even then, I'm fine with lots of people suggesting various ideas that have already been suggested. Aside from removed/denied features (bubbles shields/instances), every thread about a HP-like or exploration ideas, NPC or AI, mobs and even decor helps to add something, somewhere. There is normally some small twist that makes it different or tries to rationalize it, and as they add up people get a better idea of what would work, or is agreeable in the changing community. From maybe a hundred failed noob suggestions could spring a more well thought out one that actually gets some people's attention.

If nothing else, it's modding ideas people can toss around before the modding scene really takes off. Things like (blockbased) bubble shields and chain reactions don't sound too hard to mod in afterall. Would be a lot easier if there was a super thread people could just direction newcomers to about some of the long running ideas (hunger/fuel, Mobs, etc) though.

But yeah, restricting access is just fucking stupid really.

I have been member 4 neerly 2 yeers git on my lvl skrub

I'm going to disagree with this because of lurkers without accounts. I lurked for like a month a half before I made an account or posted on the oldsite.

Now, maybe a one week limiter on the SUGGESTIONS forum so people learn a little about the game before they can post a suggestion? I could see that.

Eh. The suggestions forum would be a good place to limit, I guess. I misspoke.

I was about to rate it an 8, but then I remembered all the harsh responses that can be summarized as "RTFM", and how RTFM isn't as simple as one might think and it doesn't work because of all the old stuff that doesn't work the same anymore. However, there's no real way to mark old instructional material as "old and broke" unless you bring it up on a piece-by-piece basis. And then you get the RTFM response again, because reasons and you should just know what information sources to trust from day one. Hence the link to the real wiki in my sig.
