I was thinking about combining logic, push/pull beams, rails technique and salvages-plex storages combo to make tekkit-like Quarry. But due to technical issues I'm not able to try it by myself. Anyway I think it's great idea. It may evolve in way to how automatize mining. What do You think?

Why build something planetside when you can just hover above and auto-mine it from orbit? I made a ship to do just that: http://starmadedock.net/threads/auto-miner.4755/

Because in terms of gameplay its kinda bad and I wouldnt be surprised if the devs completely removed orbital mining eventually
Whatever... I'd just throw a ship core down and a group of down firing beams and a group of side firing beams and let it eat into the planet. There'd be no need for push beams, structures, etc.

Why should an operator have to manually strip mine something with the amazing technology that apparently exists in the starmade universe? Use the tools you're given.

Because we aren't talking about lore, we are talking about gameplay and mechanics. There is no incentive to claim or build on planets at all when we can acquire what we need from inside the spaceship. Having reasons (mining included) to go to a planet and set up a base would add quite a bit of value. I would rather have to extract minerals from the ground with a proper setup than use my orbital miner.

Know why? Because they aren't planets at that point. Mining them from a ship reduces them to large asteroids that we can walk on if we cared to, which isn't the case.

Now if only calbiri would read all of it and give a non-super-fucking-vague response that would be cool. Perhaps you could ask him? You seem in good terms with him. Not to mention that he seems to evades my rare questions and constructive criticism like pest.... (I hope that it's just an impression)

I know that he quietly publicly stated that he does not like orbital mining. THAT BEING SAID. I have no idea if they are even thinking of it. I came up with the idea of a module based extraction system. There was a also a thread started recently where someone explained how it could work. Each plate has its own number of resources. Each plate can be extracted from. Resources regenerate over time. It was pretty nice.

To reduce planet mining, planets gravity to should increase to 150% of the salvage beams range and the planets gravity should become more powerful.

    No. It shouldn't.

This would result in the server failing everytime someone decides to orbital mine, because their large ship would be sucked towards the planet.

wat? Suck you in faster? No. Bad starhaiden, go sit in the corner.

so you should not escape a plantes gravity unless you have a 4:1 thrust mas ratio? so planets basically would become Titanmagnets awesome idea of getting those "out of the game"

It wouldn't be that bad. You will need to build small salvage ships docked to Your main ship. because Your main ship would be too heavy.

no, you wouldn't need to do anything, you could, but not need to. You will get idiotic new players to build something large, dont think about server performance, go to salvage and poof, server is crippled by the lag.

This is the main reason I'm hyped for the rail system. When it comes out. If it comes out.

Let's admit it, mining my 'hand' is very boring and time consuming. That might change! Factorio style.

idk If You understood right. I mean situation when gravity would be enough big to suck big ships.

Playing crafting only survival makes planets very valuable. There is currently no way to acquire stations in a survival universe without selling to shops or cheating yourself some money. If you rely on crafting then selling items isn't even a great idea as you have to give up what you may need to craft something down the line. Currently factories cannot be set up on ships (but I've heard "flagships" will be able to support them) so attaching yourself to a decayed station or planet is your only option for crafting and decayed stations are not ideal as anything you place turns to scrap.

If planets gravity is more powerful then people would have to build ship better suited for planet mining. They could use stop effect so they can get out of the planets gravity

I'm seeing a lot of mining ships utilizing anti-gravity already

Even better idea: Make the atmosphere burn them up before they reach the surface. Kabloom!
