    Hey there guys,
I really dislike the dodecahedronal planets. They just aren't as good as the old disc planets. They're harder to traverse, they lag out our games and they just look butt-ugly. So, here is my suggestion: Add an option in the server config allowing the use of the old planets.
I know the disc planets look unrealistic, but realism isn't an element in a game composed entirely of 1m cubed blocks. If this is implemented, a lot of people would become very happy indeed.
Another suggestion: Have different turret blocks, one that rotates on the x axis, and one that rotates on the y axis. This will help ships with turrets look a lot nicer when firing if the barrels move seperately from the turret housing. Also, add an option in the turret menu to set the current position as default and have the AI return to that position when all enemies in range are destroyed.
Thank you for listening and ciao for now.

I personally prefer the dodecahedrons. However, there are obviously people who prefer the old type, so a (non-default) config option should be added to allow old planets to generate.

And as for the turrets, schema said he plans on revamping the docking/turret (+ a new rail system) after the GUI update. Considering he said he was considering THIS suggestion, it seems likely that a system similar to what you are suggesting may be on the way.

Shame on you guys. The old planets SUCKED horribly.

As for the turrets, the new docking system is already underway. You're a bit late

i started playing until now .867 and i always saw the planets and said... why the hell arent these discs? of maybe varying sizes, it would be easier to vary sizes of disk instead of the poligonal ones. i never knew the earlier planets were disks.

Implying it was the same people.

I don't necessarily completely agree with people who want the discs back, but they do make some good points and I do agree with Lecic that it would be nice as a non-default setting. (we can already get the ugly ass old astronaut back if you really want that, too) Disc vs Dodecahedron have their advantages and disadvantages. I really would like if Schema would apply that graphic-warping technique that gives the illusion of rounded blocks. That would go a long way to make them not look like ass. Right now they're just too damn laggy under the average setting. Unless you turn down your res and some of the graphical effects. They're very fun otherwise, they just need more optimization.

For the record, I LOVED the old planets. And I wasn't aware about the docking system.

To touch on something that noone's mentioned; I think that the idea of a default position for turrets that they automatically go to when there are no enemies would be great for my OCD, there is nothing more annoying than having turrets facing in odd directions after a fight,

old planet were terrible pirates could easy attack you from underneath the disc, destroying you from below. The bottom of disc planets was ugly too.

While it seems people disagree on which planet they prefer, it seems to further the argument for the option to be placed in the config files.

That is exactly what I was thinking. It can also help people that have lots of turrets so they don't have to waste a lot of time resetting every single CIWS and AAA turret after a battle.

Though your English leaves something to be desired, you raise a good point. Perhaps instead of dodecahedrons a simple cube with six-sided gravity would be far easier and far less laggy, yet removes the problem of attacks from below.

There was a problem with the cubes, the can between gravity was too great and would have cause a lot of lag. Schema would have thought about cubes and other 3D shapes but he chose dodecahedron planets so there must be a good reason why he chose it.
