Hey guys, been playing for a while now, and have had some hiccups, but overall a very enjoyable experience. I do have some questions that I have not been able to find answers for though, not sure if my Google-Fu is lacking or am just not seeing it, but here goes.

    1. Do Dockable reactors still work or not? If they do, what do you actually shoot the power supply beams at?

    2. Is there some secret to building turrets? I have had no luck building my own as of yet, but I will keep trying.

    3. when you copy/paste something, is there some way to tell how many of what blocks you need to have in inventory, similar to when you are filling in a blueprint?

    4. What are the odds that we will ever get rotational and hinged blocks?

    5. Do Multilayer hulls have any effect in game? For example, I have been planning a shill with an inner hull 5 blocks thick, followed by a two block space, then a layer of hull, then another 2 block space, and more hull. Kind of like this:

    HHHHHSSHSSHSSHSSH

Am drawing a blank now, I could swear I had a dozen questions when I started this. Anyway, if anyone can help me out with answers that would be great.

1 They do kinda, you'd fire the supply beam from the docked reactor via a logic clock and aim it down towards parent ship. I've never gotten one to work, but I know others swear by them.

2 What problems are you having constructing turrets? One main issue is that the core must be at the bottom of the turret with no block beneath it.

3 Other than the visual representation, no, there's no way to tell how many blocks it will cost.

4 Actual odds, maybe 5050? I'm certainly keeping my fingers crossed though.

5 They serve two very game changing effects when built the way you describe. A) an increase in mass of several orders of magnitude and a general slowing of the ship in questions acceleration. B) They would serve as the only/last defense/buffer of a ship with its shields down versus a high explosive radius missile or a much rarer drone torpedo. Normally these explosions tear off a single layer of hull, along with whatever happened to be behind it in a spherical pattern up to 50m deep pas the hull. You would halve that penetration with your armor design. Frankly I've never seen more than 5ish layers of hull but am seriously considering experimenting after reading your post.

    1. i never used dockage reactors. but I'm fairly certain that they got nerfed so they don't work anymore

    2. can you be more specific. what exactly is your problem?

    3. currently there isn't. now that you mention it, that would be a good addition

    4. Devs are working on it. just be patient

    5. i heard that it does work. its actually quite effective against missiles. only problem is it requires more space

    1. Not sure
    2. Turrets drain power from the main ship for firing, if I recall correctly.
    3. There are ways of figuring it out, which are extremely tedious, such as deleting the section you want to copy, checking which blocks you got, undoing that, and then copying and pasting. Sounds like too much of a hassle, doesn't it?
    4. Very likely, though nothing can be said for certain. Rails are already planned.
    5. Yes, they protect against missiles, punchthrough, piercing, etc. If your ship is focused on armor, you can raise their effective HP by adding a passive punchthrough effect (?), or at least, that's what I heard.

I can confirm that thay do, therefore, you don't need a seperate reactor on the turret.

Awsome thanks guys, am in the process of building a Titan so space is not a problem as far as the armor layering goes. Mainly wanted to make sure this PITA was going to be worth it before I went further as just my hull has taken me well more than a month, heck, just getting it to look right in the initial hull layer took at least a month as is a half ellipsoid design that I have had to eyeball as have not been able to find a modeler tool that goes big enough, even Plotz only goes to 256 blocks, and I am already well over 1000 blocks tall.

    1. Modular docked reactors are still better than built in power reactors of the same size (without dimensional bonus), but the difference hardly justifies the much higher prize of powersupply beam blocks.

    2. Place a turret docking block, spawn a ship core, enter core, go into flight mode, select core in hotbar, shoot at docking block, switch to build mode and start building. Don't build past the green box or your turret will be undocked (you can build half a block higher than the box due to the gap between docking block and turret core). Increase box size with turret docking enhancers connected to the docking block.

    3. If you have 10 layers of armor only 10 armor blocks (and some system blocks) have to be destroyed to reach the core, thus multilayer armor doesn't make much sense currently. Filling the space with shields and passive ion effect blocks is far better in my opinion. However, the way ships are destroyed will be changed in the future
(HP-system), but no details are known, yet.

Last I checked turrets only drain power for the weapons, not shield regeneration/anything else.
Just checked it, turrets do draw power for shield rechargers. However, weapons can't use the power reserves of turret and ship at the same time. If a turret has power reactors and both turret and ship have 50 000 energy (fully charged core) the turret still can't fire weapons using more than
50 000 energy per shot. In fact the limit is bit above 50 000, probably the energy which can be generated within a certain timespan is added to the reserve.

The game is still in development and you'll probably have to refit your ship multiple times before release. I think you should at least wait until the HP system is in place before you waste a lot of time. If you still want to continue use different colors for the armor layers. This way you can easily remove specific layers via block filter, and when you're sure about it you can replace all the layers with blocks in the same color.
