Well now post-update - all ships are made 100% from crafted resources ;) I personally think that decorative blocks with no actual function are punished too hard via their crafting trees. Btw sven, yay for another member of the image-statsheets-for-ships club - the coolest club :D

Lidren : That quote from me was before the blueprint update. Now I guess it is sort of the same since one way or the other, all blocks must be crafted - however there is no point in not allowing blueprints anymore either, since they do not deliver any economic advantage. I can arrange myself with having to come up with the resources (I just wish for easier obtaining of deco blocks and most of all, colored hull), but the building process itself is something that should absolutely only ever be done once per ship in my personal opinion :)

I've been using stat-sheets/info-graphs for as long as I've been uploading ships to Starmade-dock... at least I think every ship has a stat-sheet. I've recently made a new one for the new batch of uploads. I think it still needs a few tweaks as some info I want on it is missing. I'll clear that up before my next batch of ships.

My Froe was designed in creative for the sole purpose of buying on my survival world, where does that fit in the scheme of things? It's not 100% designed and built in survival. I for one like building in creative and many of my ships going forward will be built with crafting in mind, my UCC military line will still be 100% hardened hull as they are a military branch with unlimited resources in my lore so it makes sense. The UCS freighters are supposed to be affordable functional ships so it makes sense for them. Well some are designed to be expensive as well such as the M.A.M.M.O.T.H..

Oh and which decorative blocks are hard to acquire? I haven't come across anything I couldn't craft on a whim when I wanted it.

Oh and one more thing, going forward now it will be hard for me to promise my ships are built 100% crafted materials as I've been looting the crap out of pirate fleets since the Mauls been combat worthy.

100% agree. For me, building a ship is an engineering and design process. During that process I want all resources I need as to not hinder the creative process. The most important thing though: I like to spend a month or more on a ship once, and then just buy it everytime afterwards (be it with blocks or credits). I have never personally understood though why one would play entirely without blueprints.

Not impossible, no - but I hold the firm belief that only things with actual ingame profit should cost anything (be it time to find a shop for it or crafting resources). For instance, the current system heavily promotes building only with grey hull; some hull colors are even rather ridiculous to craft in comparison with grey hull (e.g. brown hull). The current blueprint system would work so much better if e.g. hull color could be switched for multislots in the inventory without a factory.

Oh decorative as in different colors of hull? Yeah that process is tedious. I actually started setting up a factory floor system that had three inputs per color and you could select what level of hull you wanted and it would produce 5 of those at a time (assuming ample resources). Grey was fairly simple matter but the logic doubled in complexity just for a single color... I can't imagine how big a circuit for brown would be.

Well, define legit (I haven't read all 3 pages yet so this is subject to editing). I've only recently started playing and figured out quite some stuff, even tho its still only a minuscule fraction of what is possible. I've made a front 15x15 salvage ships with 10-long salvage cannons, linkes to 2 computers so I don't have to wait for cooldown (1 half fires while the other recharges) and been mining and refining to earn my credits. After an hour or two (because of the 50k stock limit in shops) I made around 1mil credits, stocked up on advanced armor and made a "decent" pirate ship killer. That showered me in loot from which I made 20mil (seems a little unbalanced, I mean loot can sometimes be 70+ weapon computers which sell for 30k each) and since then I've been making more anti-pirate ships so I have backups in case I die. Claimed a planet on which I own a small refining outpost. I haven't cheated anything in yet, however I did mess around with spawning ships to see how it works for later creative play (none of which I ofc used). So in my opinion, I did play legit since my income came from mining and pirate loot.

Legit means not using admin commands or external editors.

Connect a cannon computer to your salvage computer. If the former has as much cannon blocks connected to it as the latter has salvage blocks, then your cooldown will be sufficiently reduced, and you won't have to wait without switching salvage beams.

I started a couple of days on a online server the legit way.

Crafting only, not even buying things in shops. It works quite good. Building the last details on a 140 meter all purpose ship so far. It quite takes a while to get used to and to know where to find some rare ores. But to my surprise it´s in my opinion more motivating than building in creative mode.
Anyways, it's freaking hard to get all the blocks to build you frigate's blueprint with the new update. Pre-building with cheats isn't much of an upside anymore.

I always play legit, buying and building blocks. A also only play solo as my internet is to slow for multiplayer. The only downside to this is that to buy a station is a lot and the only other place to build factories is plants. So I am playing at 7-8 fps.
I used to have fps like that. Upgraded to an Asus Vivobook and can play Mech Warrior Online now

I have a legit survival game running in SP (mostly because i would not have the time to defend my stuff on a real server).
Mostly it is very relaxing and enjoyable, but:
What i really hate is the lack of Larimar asteroids, flying around and looking for them is just a waste of time, i do not like the "shield are rare now" idea.
The loot from pirates is somewhat strange...
Pirate stations made from decayed hull was a disappointment after the long fight it took to destroy that station.

Loot clouds really do need to be balanced yet... sometimes you get nothing from killing an Isanth and other times you get lag inducing clouds.

They should be more common now, have you started a new universe after the respective patch?
