i don't understand the logic behind making pirate bases scrap
gameplay wise i guess it is trying to be balanced, but it is not.
pirates are shoved up your butt in the process - so you are fighting for a bigger reward. you'll have to anyway fight lots of waves before finally taking out the faction module which is hidden somewhere in the base

and logically pirate stations are real stations and are not supposed decayed if they are to be "inhabited" by turrets (which is currently the only kind of "life" in them)

and if the reward is still too big for fighting so many waves - make the turrets on the stations bigger and more effective (by making them long ranged missiles so that nobody can get close).

i am saying this because i spent a good ten minutes fighting off waves of a station before realizing that the station was scrap and not even worth the effort to fight anymore. at least we can make it so that 1/2 salvaged are real blocks, and build blocking makes all of them scrap??

tldr: pirate stations should give real blocks and not scrap because of the sheer effort to get them and if you so much wanted scrap why take the risk when you can go to a peaceful abandoned station.

"A good ten minutes"... I spent several hours fighting stations last night. The loot dropped from the defending ships was far more valuable than the value of the stations blocks I would have gotten from salvage. Pirates build their stations from scrap, they don't have an organized government or the production resources to build nice things, just whatever they can weld together.

Oh, right, the unbalanced random loot. Yeah, you can get a 1000 warp gate computers if you're lucky. No, the pirate stations should remain scrap.

I do, however, that scrap should also get the resource salvage bonus, or at least half of it. Because right now there is absoultely no reason to salvage decayed stations.

I was salvaging them just because I wanted to get rid of them... I imagine maybe you having a chance to pick up the original block on a pirate station might be a good option to at least give some incentive to harvesting them. I have not checked out all the pirate stations but if any of them are made primarily out of hardened hull then being able to simply kill the station and harvest those blocks would be a bad idea.

Those are some insanely nice pirate stations if they're made of scrap. Why does everyone always imagine pirates as scroungy buccaneers? By this logic, the stations would have no shields, be built out of hull and have shitty turrets, along with crummy looks (aka the old stations). No, the new stations are damned high-tech fortresses defended by waves of vicious mercenaries. It's even better with real ship blueprints being given to the pirates. Those are NOT shitty little crap stations.

The pirates are pimped out space mafia, the ones with the fancy havane cigars. Only exception is the isanth-IVs, those are the scroungy buccaneers.

Their stations are set to self destruct when conquered so you don't get all that fancy material. They have acid based explosives built into every bit of hull and module, destroying the faction module triggers these charges to go off therefore rendering the station useless.

Too many shields and shield rechargers, scrap is stupid as it is currently. If you wanna keep it scrap, make them not take 10 minutes to bring the shields down and another 50 minutes trying to find the damn faction module.
If it has to be scrap, at least add more treasure in the boxes.

some have a bit of hardened hull, but schema said specifically to lay off the advanced armor

exactly jath, why the heck would i waste so much time for some scrap when i can simply take it from neutral stations if i so much needed it?

Maybe a compromise, perhaps a setting to allow a percentage chance that each harvested block will be 'real' versus scrap. That way a large base will give you some usable blocks.

I would also make the recover percentage inverse to the claimed mining bonus.. in that you get MORE stuff in an unclaimed system.

Pirates don't take scrap. Pirates will take the best pieces and resources from stations and ships to assemble their stations. Some mismatched but all good quality. With the visual quality and details of the stations, it makes no sense why t he Y would be scrap. And I would assume that the pirates just took the station over and did not build them. Don't be cheap with the block. Hey put bugger turrets on the station of you don't want people getting blocks. Look at that thread btw.

How about when they implement the new HP system (which i don't know if it will be applied to stations in some way or not) any damaged block is scrap, all other blocks will give you the original item. A way to increase the amount of scrap, if that is what they want, could be an aoe around the blocks you damage causing them to become scrap as well.

Might add the element of focus firing on locations of the station you don't care about in order to save the systems you want.

if the pirate station is scrap, there is no reason to fight for a pirate station, you'll just go salvage a neutral station.

It makes sense thematically that hull and other structural pieces would be scrap. If you cut and drill a bunch of holes in a sheet of steel it can't be uncut or undrilled. It can only be sold for the scrap value. At the end of WWII the United States wheeled brand new B17 bombers directly from the factory to a scrap yard where they were cut up and melted down.

I would like to see non structural stuff (like power or shield modules) be reusable and not turned into scrap.

That depends on what ship you use, of course.

But yes, I agree with aceface . It is much harder to destroy a pirate station now, so there should be bigger rewards for taking one down.
