I'm new to the forums, so I apologize if this is the wrong area, format, etc...

After the most recent patch (I believe it was yesterday, on August 3rd) there were several bugs that arose for me.
Things such as Input errors and the like. Luckily those are gone...

I rolled back to the August 1st release and it worked just fine.
However, I installed the update again today, thinking that maybe it was a minor bug and that they fixed it already.

Now a new bug has arose and I don't think I'm the only one having it. There are similar threads about this issue but I am quite sure that it has something to do with the patch, not the work-around problems that others have had in the past.

I can't uplink to starmade.org and for some reason, that is keeping me from getting online.
I can't even submit a bug report because it requires a connection to the website (hence this post.)

I tried a few things that people had advised others to do: Flush DNS settings, restart computer, check firewall...

I just tried to download a new copy of the launcher. Deleted the old one and pasted in the new one.

The old error was something along the lines of "UnknownHostException" and showed the star-made.org at the end.

NOW its saying "IllegalArgumentException: unresolved address."

This occurs whenever I try to access ANY server.

I was originally trying to join Red Shift but then found a post saying that this is caused by the IP being led to an unresponsive port, or something like that.

So then I tried joining a different server, since maybe the server just wasn't up and the server list was wrong.

    Still nothing.

Seriously, if this is a bug then they need to fix it asap.

If this is something that only I am experiencing, please inform me because I have been very curious as to whether or not anyone else can log into servers but haven't been able to get 100% answers from other threads.

If its not a bug and its just me then please inform me how to rectify this issue.

    Thank you for you time.

P.S. Sorry for the several thousand paragraphs of texts above...

Ok, so if I understand this correctly, the "UnknownHostException" error means that the client thinks that the website is non-existent.
Which means that someone probably screwed up a line of code in the server/hosting settings, which I assume loops through the starmade website for validation/bug reports.

In other words, it may very well be a problem with the website, however I doubt it, seeing as to how this didn't occur until the latest update.

Either way, someone needs to take notice to this.

Do I have to post a ticket on the dev forums or will they discover this issue here?

Ok, seriously. I'm getting sick of this.

It seems as though other people can log into servers and this latest update didn't fix a thing.

A little help would be appreciated.

Did you also try changing the DNS server to 8.8.8.8 (Google Public DNS)? :/
Also, what's the server's port number?

I actually just tried that a little while ago and still no change.

HOWEVER, this is one bit of news that narrows down the issue.
I just tried logging in on my laptop and it does so just fine. Which means either malware or bad internet settings.

Since this issue pops up often under Java Language posts, I'm assuming that something is affecting my Java install.
However, I have reinstalled several times and even installed both 32 and 64 bit builds but still no change.

I have a scan running on comodo for anything malicious but I'm not sure if its going to turn anything up.

    Any idea's?

EDIT: Also, the port number is still 4242 for the server.

EDIT: EDIT: Ok, I finally got fed up with the situation and did a fresh install of Windows, which fixed it.

So anyone else who may have this problem and stumbles upon this post, that is the only fix that i have found for it.

Surely its a corrupt file somewhere that was screwing with things, because I couldn't even update games on Steam anymore.

Hopefully I don't encounter this error again though...

Ok, I'm re-opening this thread. After updating to the new version of the game, my friend is also suffering from this SAME BLASTED ERROR!
Someone needs to find a solution to this crap! I demand to speak to an Admin/Developer to find a fix for this!

    Hello Necromedes,
to get this error nailed down, we need to make sure the full and correct errormessage is produced.

Get the Starmade SystemChecker and post a report here.

Please read this guide and set up a game directory as instructed there.
Start the launcher, and adjust the Memory settings to your system needs.
Uplink your name. (Read this for reference)
Now try to connect to any server matching your installed version from this list.

And now the most important thing:
Go to your created installation, and get the whole /logs directory.
Zip it, and attach it here, or to a conversation with me.

    Finally we're getting somewhere!

Once my friend is off work I'll notify him of the steps you have described and hopefully we can get this sorted out.

Thank you for your time and I will post the results as soon as possible.

This is going to sound weird because it is and should have nothing to do with resolving. I was playing on sm.elwyneternity.com:4242 server connecting fine and decided to tweak some advanced settings. Well I changed the VBO Bulk-Mode size (MB) from 4 to 8 and got the error "IllegalArgumentException: unresolved address."

I changed VBO Bulk-Mode size (MB) from 8 to 4 and I'm now able to connect to the server again. It's weird because that setting from what I read is just how much on board GPU RAM is used and shouldn't have anything to do with resolving an IP / DNS. When I was getting the error I even looked in the server list and unchecked the show only compatible and sm.elwyneternity.com:4242 just wasn't in the list. But like I said as soon as I changed VBO back down to 4 I was able to connect. So for you others not able to connect to any servers...if your VBO is set to 4 already maybe try turning VBO off and see. The advanced settings are on the second launcher under settings up top btw.
