So I'm building a massive space station/shipyard/hub and I'm trying to allocate enough room for the main shipyard (which will take up a large amount of interior space. I was wondering what some of your biggest creations have been so I can properly plan for that.

Please include dimensions and images of the exterior if you have them.

    Some tips here...
My recommendation as someone who's been building a large shipyard for a year and a half, don't jump in the deep end. Burnout is a real issue.
My yard is on it's 3rd incarnation. It was initially quite a bit smaller but I liked the design and upscalled it. Then v2 came along and I've upscalled and expanded again. I built my yard as a 50m length hexagonal loop, as that's the length between shipyard U's, then copy pasted it, that didn't take very long. Going over it and adding detail and habitable areas is the time consuming bit. Internal dimensions are 525 long and 200 across. Due to my building style, (very slow,) and the inherent limitations of the game I don't plan to build a ship any bigger then 500m so this should suffice for my needs...
best plan is to have lots of side projects to avoid burn out and be prepared to spend a lot of time on it. Maybe start with a small scale rough project to see how it works. I find a 2nd attempt at a design always comes out much better then the first.

There's a few more pics of it in my shipyard thread and on the Door Porn thread.

build the actual shipyard rings first, then decide what the rest will look like. also base the shape of the shipyard around the style of ships you tend to build (ie vertical / high, long and broadside turreted etc).

I'm planning on uploading this station to the StarMade Community Content at some point, so I want to have a good idea of what some of the biggest ships are.

The smallest ships I build recently are 5 blocks heigh, 9 blocks wide and 15 blocks long.
Most of the time, they are 7-9 blocks heigh, 11-13 blocks wide and 18-30 blocks long.

Thus, first I'll build a shipyard with dimensions 15x 11y 23z to 32x 16y 64z and would upscale from that.
My hangars have that size. Shuttle hangars garanteue the smaller as inner size and station hangars the bigger box as inner size.
Special hangars may build around the docked ships size, garanteue the smaller, eventually the bigger on biggest diameters within that shape.

My Tier2-ships (T0 is drones and T1 is for 1-4 crew members) do include such a hangar for an emergency shuttle and have 2 reactors, thus are often 2x2x2 in size with only 3-5x the amount of usable crew interior (4-20 crew members).

Their shipyard would be just 2x scaled. Smaller ones for specific designs and maxed-out ones between 30x 22y 46z and 64x 32y 128z for dedicated stations where you have space in abundandence.

My Tier3-Ships and shipyards are only theoretically now.
I plan to include them on every dedicated shipyard station of factions with more than 1 person when I will play online again.

Tier4-Ships and shipyards would be upscaled 8x from the smallest one and always maxed-out.
They must garanteue that a box of 256x 128y and 512z fits into them, but probably they are built for 384 xy and 512z to allow more freedom in shapes. The point is, that some factions will only have one of these at their home-base and all common tasks can be solved with shared ships buildable in this one shipyard.

Tier5: Everything above is experimental and not factory-supported by me.
Every combat ship above would be build without shipyards and modularly dock Tier4-sized crew spaces, armor plates, weapons and shield generators on a Tier4-sized stick. These ships may slab 3 T4 ships together and let the player build reactors in a provided hollow corridor within these 3.

Or there is a server-wide, admin-spawned shipyard or some admin-spawning and control over such huge ships. Perhaps some factions build such km-long shipyards, but not having these shipyards is a good way to implement ship-size restrictions on a server for mass-spawned ships.

Tier6: Ofcourse everyone can manually build bigger, but peoples don't need a 2km long flagship when most ohter peoples build ships with 1/30 volume in Standard-Tier4 shipyards of a half-km size.

My first ever shipyard was about 120m long and 75m wide and high. You can see a corner of it in the following screenshot.
This is much smaller and was designed to accommodate the "big gun" from an Eta derelict as if you dismantle(d) these in a shipyard you got the parts and not just scrap.
Finally, this is one of my largest yards. It is about 200m long, 150m wide and high. I have gone to 400m by 200m by 200m but I don't personally tend to build ships that big!
One element that most of my shipyard stations have is multiple shipyards! Both Outpost 1 and The Forge had two. The main one was supplemented with a smaller secondary yard to build drones or cargo pods. On the Horizon RP server before it folded I was building another station that had TWO larger yards (200m by 150m and 150m) and TWO small yards for drones and cargo pods.

Would I want a super sized shipyard? Only if I had a large ship that I wanted to build in it. I tend to feel that for my purposes at least, 200m is about maximum. Though in the pictures you can see a large ship docked. This was my planet stripping autominer and this didn't fit into Outpost 1 where it was originally built and obviously wouldn't fit into Rig TWO!

Rule of thumb for me would be able to build anything I wanted to build without having to move the core anchor position.

I figure 503x503x999 should cover most ships. Even with chamfered corners.

2km+ in longest direction, the shipyard is so oversized because I really wanted to fit this (1.55km long)

Btw, I will use //23x 15y 31z// as Standard containers now.
Small shipyards should be able to produce these.

//24x 16y and 32z// will be (my) inner requirements for small shipyards.
