Yes... I kept reading that description in several places, but never got a gauge of what that means since that could be a HUGE variance. Based on other factors like the capacity of it's flight decks compared to what depictions I found on it, I think I narrowed it down to ~100-200km in diameter, but mostly I was just curious if it was bigger than a death star, so that is still a bit inconclusive.
well if we assume its a similar star fort to the one the legion of the damned has, it is just slightly smaller than the first deathstar.

I was hoping to find some old pictures of it but couldn't find one in the BFG rules. Only found this one that is useful :

You can see on the bottom of the picture an escort ship docked to it wich are around 1 km long in warhammer. So roughly phalanx does on this picture 20 km large. Wich is approximately the size of Phobos, one of the moon of Mars.

That would defy the description that it can dock 12 imperial cruisers around the circumference of its forward arms. This could be anywhere from about 20-70km depending on if that mean in parallel or bow-to-stern. Pics I've seen of it show it as a radial design with 4 arms and a hive city in the middle, but it's not an in profile depiction like this one where you can accurately get scale, even if you could answer that question.

The description you give is a ramilies starfort. Phalanx is often described as a giant ramilies for the simplicity but on the old and when i say old i mean really old descriptions, it wasn't stated as clearly as that. Wich is why i showed this pic that is probably much closer to what phalanx originally was. Sorry but i'm an old warhammer fan and everything that comes from black library and since the v6 is heresy for me. Necrons are still robots just protecting their tomb worlds. If everything here would be canon the universe would be completely different.

I suggest reading the rogue trader books and especially battlefleet koronus for the part about spaceships specifics. This book is really interesting to read.
Rogue Trader: Battlefleet Koronus by Fantasy Flight Games

But well, even if you take the current description of a Ramilies, that is a square that can dock 12 cruisers on total. A cruiser in the warhammer universe is around 5 km long slightly depending on the class. It is NOT a battlecruiser or bigger ship's size wich exist in the universe. So after some math, you can have 3 cruiser on each sides, each cruiser being 5 km, it means 15 km on each sides of the square. Pythagore being our friend we know that the diagonal is around 22 km long. The size of a small moon, Phobos on mars. Add to it a bit because you need some space between ships but well that's about it.

Yes warhammer ships are big but not that big.

Edit : just read here the description part Phalanx - Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum

I really appreciate the book references, but consider this:

Your citation mentions: "Her foredeck is so large that it can dock a dozen large cruisers" or as another source mentions "its foredeck can dock a dozen Imperial Navy Cruisers around its circumference".

While I was also basing my approximation off of a 5-6km cruiser, these descriptions are unclear if it was nose-to-nose or side-to-side. Imperium ships are longbois, so a 5km long ship may only be 1km wide. This also tells me nothing about how far they are spaced, but I would not assume you'd want to pack them any closer than 1 km together since many cruisers have odd protrusions you don't want hitting eachother. This uncertainty leads to my approximation of 20-70km (or greater depending on spacing) around the docking area.

Also, the 12 cruisers do not dock around the circumference as a whole, but around the "foredeck". This will be a much smaller circumference than the entire base-ship which puts it on a very different scale than a Ramillies. The cover of the book "Phalanx" depicts it as having 4 arms (one of which is presumably the foredeck), that are each ~1/4 of the over-all diameter of the vessel, and have a circumference that is ~1.5x greater than their length. This makes the diameter ~ 2.67 times the foredeck circumference so that puts us at ~53-187 (or greater) km across.

Last point is the ambiguity in the definition of a "moon" vs a "satellite" planets such a saturn have countless satellites that not considered moons. Generally moons are considered satellites which achieve their own hydrostatic equilibrium (or at very least an ellipsoid shape). This requires a diameter of at least 400km.

Even if you consider non-elliptical satellites to be moons, the large end of moons is still over 5000km within our solar system, meaning without further information, the author could still easily be referring to anything less than 1000km as "small".

So, yes, I know a lot of this suggests a much bigger scaled that you would expect, even in warhammer, but this is also the biggest surviving ship created by the million worlds of mankind over the course of many millia. It is by definition a ridiculous outlier just like the death star is an outlier in star wars.

No one was saying or doing anything... At this point, you're the one stoking shit.
I don't know why you are upset about a meme. Can you identify with it or what? Maybe it bears some truth after all, because otherwise you wouldn't write me such negative response.

After all this meme is related to the overall feeling I have when I browse the internet. It wasn't meant to complain about the current forum situation. In fact it wasn't meant to give a side pointer into our forums past, but maybe some people can relate to it. I certainly can.

People are so angry so quickly, that's one theme of the meme. And it certainly applies right to your first reaction to it. Or should I think that telling me that I would "stoke shit" isn't angry talking?

LOL!!! I love how this response is exactly what the meme is about.
Of course it was, though I'm not even particularly angry. I'm just a tired man at this stage.

I'm not upset or angry... I'm just confused.
And no, 'stoke shit' isn't angry talking.
