I just want you to correct on this one, Empyrion didn't start in 2015 it started 2013:

    Empyrion, about Eleon Game Studios:
"We are professionals of game and/or software development where the average team member has more than 10 years of industry experience. (...) In 2013, we decided to embark on an adventure and start the development of a game that uniquely combines elements from space simulations, ego-shooters, construction games and survival games."

Empyrion is started from a developer team that has a 10 years experience in the software industry. Starmade is just a one man project with people helping out here and there. I am not sure if its just to compare booth. If I would compare booth I would only compare them in their concepts about gameplay. But not for example in dev speed, 3d assets or textures.

...I miss the memes from page one where it only was about ingame stuff. Since 5 pages its all about forum, moderators, rants against ...I would love to get some memes back like they have been on the first pages.

still doesnt change the fact that Starmade has been stagnant and at some points regressing due to schines own actions. Pro team or not the joke was meant to point out that starmade's competition is catching up and surpassing it. If you want Starmade to get better then trying make excuses for it is not helping and trust me this is coming from someone who did only that since I started playing.

Oh believe you me I would love to start making good memes about eh game again. The only problem is that the game is going to be in "open heart surgery" for potentially the rest of the year. Little hard to make a joke about something when the rule and mechanics of the game are being completely rewritten.

Are you sure it's really a competition? Why would it be? Players can play and enjoy both of them, you know. Actually, if someone plays one spaceship-building game and enjoys it, doesn't that make them more likely to try other spaceship-building games too?

true but that depends solely on the individual player.

In my own experience I used to play a lot of minecraft. Now I don't. Why? cuz I found Starmade and Starmade was everything I wanted out of minecraft and more. Starmade lead me to Empyrion cuz empyrion had everything I wanted out of Starmade and more. And so on and so forth.

The point is I stopped playing minecraft cuz something better came along that did what minecraft did in a much better way (namely build mode rather then building by hand). unless Starmade can really come up with something that no other game can replicate better my experience will become more common.

Pardon the intrusion. Yes, it really is a competition.
    1. While a player technically can and will play both games, they will favor one over the other, play it more often, show it more often to their friends, make suggestions to play it when someone asks for a good space game, etc. That is new revenue.
    2. On the other hand, if one game falls behind and can't keep up with significant advances in gaming features, or even fails to support its own features, unhappy players will actively campaign against the faltering game, warning potential new players away. Lost revenue.
    3. Your specific wording of "try" is important here: a player might try a demo, see the faltering game as inferior, and go on to play better games without buying the faltering game. This is important in regards to the survival and continued development of the game. No revenue.

I still have high hopes for starmade, no other game offers the same level of sheer size, Space engineers and empirion just doesn't let you have gigantic servers and therefore nor large factions, also there is no way to controll a fleet as a single player unlike in starmade, the only comparable experience is from the depths, but it focuses on single player and is naval not space game, and waaaaay more complicated than starmade. YES more complicated than STARMADE, I mean from the depths tutorial takes 2 hours and you still know jackshit becouse that 2 hours was skipping over a lot of stuff, I mean just building a darn engine there is like solving a high-end pussle... It's rather repulsive...

I kinda agree with your overall feeling for the competitors of Starmade. Even though Empyrion has huge servers with 150 players online at the same time...

But I still feel alone there, mainly coz all factions are about pvp on that huge servers. No real trading or some cool organised stuff within a building to do (besides fighting): Can't really manage item flow via drains, can't manage access to parts of a structure without denying build privileges (hell Starmade has rank levels 1-5 and even though we complain about it Empyrion just has nothing comparable). Can't manage personal storages on a bigger structure, only if you deny build access or if you have a docked entity (and docked small vessel blocks give a very unimmersive experience). Can't manage item selling besides putting it into a global market place (you can't buy or sell items via standing near a player shop, there are only some npcs but their trades are just not player economy driven trades).

Oh and most Empyrion servers have a messed up economy and playfield setup. Too many structures on one planet and bam the server kneels. That's why they need to wipe regularly. Everyone wants to build on a planet but no server owner is able to manage build allowances with build regulations. Like giving experienced builders a higher block limit, and the "i spawn in big blueprint for my faction and put 100 turrets on it" 18 year olds just get a small build limit. But no thats not the way. But there has to be a way to encourage people who are online often to settle on one planet, and drive settlers who are just doing the typical "I build a huge outpost on each pvp server and come online once a week to reset wipe timeouts" away into sectors that are a bit outside.

The bigger server owners often try to give the players a good unique gameplay but they often mess up economy things or the management of "who is enocouraged to build where" stuff. Worst servers are those that offer exclusive planets against donations. I allready payed for Empyrion. Now they want me to pay for their server thats not even made by an experienced game designer, and that messed up economy and player interaction gameplay. Yeah whatever.

Empyrion has a broader appeal because of its developed planets and survival content. A lot of gamers find ground survival and combat enjoyable, especially those that grew up on Minecraft. Combing that with space and voxels makes for a game with considerable popularity out of the gate. Unfortunately for Empyrion, their PVP sucks and ours is becoming more approachable.
