...and I don't mean up and down!

Sometimes on both SP and MP, when the warp tunnel effect is being displayed the game freezes. More often than not this is a fatal error and I have to restart my client. On rare occasions, the game eventually continues but this is VERY rare.

This can be my first jump or several jumps into a longer journey. On SP this happens on any existing or new world I create.

I've added a log from the last time it happened.

Is your notebook equiped with mor then 4GB of Memory?
are you sure your GPU drivers are up to date?
what exact error does it drop when it crashes (the logfile ends without a crash or the usual game exit context)
are there more files after the crash in the logs folder ? (java threaddumps thingies?)
(you can clear all files from the logs folder to get a better overview before crashing again. you are able to reproduce this on every SP game right ?)

    I have 8gb of RAM.

GPU drivers are up to date.

I just get a generic Windows error message and automated " Windows is trying to find a fix message ".

Single player AND multi player. Will delete all logs and post next time it happens.
[doublepost=1478618448,1478617193][/doublepost]Additionally, I have only noticed the problem since the warp tunnel effect changed. Was this a simple graphical update or was there some code attached to this change?

I guess the grafics shader for that did change then.

OK .. its not the RAM then ^^
however ... the GPU might run out of grafics memory somehow .. because if i have seen that right it shares the memory with system.
if possible leave taskmanger open in the back ground and check the performance on CPU and Memory shortly after crashing to see if there is a clue.

OK... Single Player and Multi Player logs after crash. Cleared all logs before testing. Screenshot of Single Player crash Task Manager (similar to multiplayer) Error message to say Java not responding - close or wait. Selected wait, took my kids to school, went to doctors, made a cup of tea, etc. Nothing! I built a ship than charges its jump drive in 6-8 seconds but if it takes more than 30 minutes for the game to catch up it isn't worth it! LOL!

The MP test was not in this ship, just a bog standard 20(ish) second charge. SP was but I waited between jumps just in case the game was lagging behind.

CPU and memory were pretty much the same and on examination, pretty constant while running the game normally. JumpCrashTaskManager.png

Still .. no crash in the logfiles .. they do just end in mid air.
are there any further files after the crash in the logfolder (aside from grafcisinfo and logstarmade) ?

And the Taskmanager shows your CPU at full load ... what else is your system doing ??

    Playing StarMade!

There was a .1 file...I will clear it out and run the test again. I'm guessing it won't matter whether it is SP or MP so I will do 1 and post everything!

Maybe it is a performace issue with my poor 4 year old laptop! Sometimes it hangs at 30% loading and sits there with no error messages, just unresponsive.
[doublepost=1478691095,1478688237][/doublepost]Task Manager doesn't report correctly in Windows 10. Two other monitors show roughly 60-70% CPU load at crash. Logs attached except lock files. For me, StarMade runs at about 60-70% normally. If I am in open space with little around me it may drop to 50%. I get between 20-50fps depending on the situation and in MP, my ping can be as low as 20 but is normally stable around 50.

I have re updated my graphics drivers but they are the same version. Probably performance related rather than an actual bug.

    Just guessing here, but
    Code:
    [JVM-ARGUMENTS] [-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true, -Xmn1024M, -Xms2048M, -Xmx4096M, -Xincgc]
4GiB (the "-Xmx4096M" part) may be cutting it close for the client if it has to load a lot of stuff, as is likely to happen when jumping. Especially if you allocate another 4GiB for the server that is running in "single player" regardless (no info about that in server log though), on a machine that only has 8GiB in total.

It won't let me increase it and I cannot decrease it without it moaning that you shouldn't go lower than 4096! On MP I'm not running the server, just the client. The most I've ever seen is 2.8gb if I'm near a planet that is spawning in for the first time. Most of the time it sits at around 2.4gb. I normally have over 50% of my memory available, it just seems to be CPU at 100%.

as long as you do not start a server instance and a client instance on the same maschine to connect to the said server instance ...
the game will use only the specified 4 GB.

i still have no clue what the actual error is. there isnt anything in the logs other then ping timeouts (either connection lost or server crash)
and no regular end of the logfiles. are you sure the game isnt continuing to run after a while of waiting after the jump ?
(that would indicate a load issue with the CPU s performance i guess)
do you have a screen shot of the error window ?
(i guess its the generic "Program stops responding" thing ?)

OK . officially out of ideas.
i guess your system is either borked or the APU cant handle what the game throws at it ... sorry :(
