Bug No connect to universe since today (29.08.2016)

    When i start the game to continue last game from yesterday (it is local), the the loading screen shows "...initializing Universe"
    in the left upper corner, and the switches to
    "connect to universe..."
    and then i am waiting. And waiting... No connection any more. Seems not to be a freeze, since the animation in the right lower corner ist still running.
    I made a full download of the last Release with overwrite all option, but without effect.
    Is there any help for that problem?

    please search for the logs folder inside your starmade install
    there should be a file named "logstarmade.0.log" in there after one of those events happening (end the game then)

    drag and drop that file into an answer here (you might have to zip it first)

    I have the same EXACT issue. Just noticed the update, updated, and now I'm stuck at "connecting to universe".

    I too am having a weird preoblem since last night. Was playing online for a while and then endless "Null Pointer Exceptions" or "Loading Universe" hangs like above.

    Offline play simply hangs and I cannot get in.

    Online play either hangs or the game loads and I am waiting to spawn and I then get one of the following scenarios...
    1. A Null Pointer Exception before I click the spawn button and I'm kicked back to the Main Menu.
    2. I click the spawn button and immerdiately get a Null Pointer Exception and kicked back to the Main Menu.
    3. I spawn next to the ship I was last in but before I am able to access the core I get a Null Pointer Exception and I'm kicked back to the Main Menu.
    4. I am able to spawn and enter the ship. FPS is through the floor but I am able to activate Radar Jammer and charge up Jump Drive. The ship I am using charges this in about 15-20 seconds. I am able to access the navigation menu and select my home as destination and even execute a jump but before the jump effect finishes I get a Null Pointer Exception and kicked back to the Main Menu.
    As I said, I had been playing quite normally for several hours online when this started happening. No Java or GFX driver updates or anything else that I can think of. I have tried to force overwrite the files with no effect.

    please try to make a fresh install at a place like c:/starmade. and check if the singleplayer works from there fine

    are you able to start a fresh singleplayer world without problems ? If not force the game to redownload and overwrite the installation.

    same here .. are you able to start a new singleplayer world and join it ? If not than please do overwrite all and reinstall the game files from the launcher option.

    btw ... all three are from the looks of it different problems ... with maybe the same cause (universe corruption)

    Thanks I will try. Interesting what you say about a universe corruption as there was some odd thinks happening just before the problems really started. I will email the admin and ask if they have had any problems. They have only recently reset the server and things were going well until last night.

    Ok, i will try after work. Hope, it will do. A redownload with overwrite was my first try yesterday without effect...
    Luckily i have saveed all my stuff before leaving the game. If i have to start a complete new universe,
    is there any problem, to copy the blueprint and template Folders from teh old to the new universe?

    that doesnt mean he has to reset the universe .. could be that there is a broken sector (or some stuff in it that has gone crazy) which has to be removed then maybe (specifics have to be checked with andy or lancake probably)

    The issue splatthecat had, has been reported from multiple server owners. Sectors appear that instacrash anyone entering with a nullpointer, and they can't log back on, because as he mentioned, they get kicked back to main menu with a nullpointer "no message attached"
    Such sectors are always "created" involving a pirate station, and a jump drive, as they always appear near a pirate station (SystemHack had a 3x3x3 zone of them with a pirate station in the center, for example)

    p.s. maybe it's about time they ditch those old stations with the old docking system...

    and since shops need to be connected to storage on anything but the rod shops, all trade stations are useless since their shop modules have a capacity of 100... so you can buy blueprints and make repairs and... thats it.

    does removing the station at -4 3 5 solve the problem maybe ?

    I will email the admin and ask them but after a complete fresh install and two attempts I am free to get back on. I've not tried SP yet but will try tonight as I have some bits to do.

    When server restarts, it seems to go away; also, repairing the sector works as well, but both needs an admin (obviously)
    I wonder if removing the station would indeed be another solution, but it seems like any type of pirate station can cause it (seen it happen with alpha, eta and delta as well)

    Also, seems like the corruption is NOT clientside; once someone triggers it, any player entering that sector will get caught up in it. I saw all admins on a server getting stuck until server owner solved it from remote console...

    Hello, ist me again :)
    i startet a new local universe and it functions well, as far as i can see. I took over my old blueprints and templates and everything looks fine.

    Cooper, Andy from Shine helped me, and what worked was to delete the "faction.fac" file from the worlds directory.

    Thaks for that tip! I renamed this file in the Directory of my old (not functional) world, and started this world again. It works.
    There must have been something in the last patch, which corrupted the faction.fac in some cases...

    is not a problem with the latest build.
    it happens when a file operation fails for some reason (i do suspect Steam, virusscanner and Windows being derpy) on ending the game.
    it also can affect chatchannels.tag or catalog.cat afaik.
