    i assume you did change
    PLAYER_MAX_BUILD_AREA = 10 //max area a player may add/remove in adv. build mode
    to something bigger than 10 in your server.cfg file
    and you are playing local Singleplayer or dedicated Server of your own ?

    The problem is they are editing the wrong sfg file. I don't steam, I can't tell you where steam hides starmade. But I can tell you that if you edit the cfg inside the folder where your steam is hiding starmade, you will get your bigger build area.

    Or even better; stop launching starmade from steam. Do a real stand-alone download and edit those files. Problem solved.

    Rename the cfg, StarMade will generate a new one if you in the right directory and restore you to defaults.
    If it does so, then you may have messed up your cfg somehow, a mis-pelling or something like that.
    You can now start over with the new cfg.

    steam install is at: /Steam/steamapps/common/StarMade/StarMade/*

    I 100% agree and endorse the idea of avoiding Steam for StarMade. Every time I have tried to update through Steam it has screwed something up. I've lost to many designs and it has corrupted to many galaxies, it just isn't worth the effort. Update through the StarMade launcher only and run the game manually.

    And if that doesn't do it (for whatever reason), the launcher should say in green towards the lower left-hand corner where your directory is located.
