How do I make this game fun again ?

    You won't ever become good at ANYTHING if you don't put effort into it. Everyone SUCKS when they start at something. EVERYONE. If you're too embarrassed/apathetic/dystopian to do that... play tetris?


    that "don't logic" thing is probably your issue. I'm constantly puzzling out how to do "neat new things" with the logic. Right now my "make it fun" pet-project is making a pirate "station" that's actually a scripted fleet ambush.
    The "Station" is just there so the ships spawn without clipping into each other. It launches it's fleet 16 seconds, and completely self-destructs 30 seconds after it's loaded.
    Part of the "script" for the larger ship is to control when it launches it's parasites, and uses it's jump inhibitor, via timer. Flush 20% of rack in first 40 seconds, another 20% 80 seconds after that, full/final flush at the 2min 30 sec area.

    Another part is damage-detection and response. After certain areas receive actual block damage the ship will turn off it's jump inhibitor system and begin charging it's own jump. Other sections activate logic swarms, or forcibly undock damaged/overheating turrets with a 100/100/100% cannon/pulse/push system.
    The short is it's a sandbox. Dream of the castle you want, and build it.

    Then I show them how NOT to get a virus; how NOT to fall for online scams; how to be more productive at work using keyboard shortcuts, email rules and alerts, etc.

    Do you really think so little of your abilities that you won't even try? Furthermore; you haven't even begun your training and you think you'll fail?. Do you think I suck at this game or something? Do you really think you can't learn anything from me?

    I can't hand you motivation. No one can. But I CAN tell you that 2 days after I get something "working" I figure out it breaks in certain conditions, or can be done WAY easier than I did it, or it has unforseen "special features" that make it better for something other than what I had planned...You can learn from everything if you make the effort, but only is you don't "avoid" learning stuff you're "not looking for right now."

    download other peoples stuff and build extensions off of it.

    That was literally the first thing I did in this game, was to download some ships which I thought to myself "those would make good bases for a new ship" and then build ontop of it and let your creative juices flow. If you end up replacing every original block to make it bigger/smaller, so be it, do what you want to do.

    In 95% of all ships built, the designer has said to themself "Damn, that looks ugly" at least once and then rebuilt it.
    I am currently in the 'ugly ship' stage myself, it's to flat. Needs greebling, maybe a turret or two.
    I just finished rebuilding it and I am about to start re-rebuilding it.

    and that's why you need to practice if you want to be good at building ships.
    Besides, everyone was horrible at it at some point, people just learned by their mistakes and kept going until they got better, even then they didnt stop practising

    Practicing is shit in creativity, you can't learn creativity, only be born with it.
    Try harder. and go git gut you casul.
    And no it's not, artists needs to practice to become good, you don't make an amazing drawing or painting on day 1, you need practice and a ton of it.
    They say you are a professional when you have about 10.000 hours of practice, so you just go get started.

    No one said you have to permanently change servers but there's no reason why you can't visit, use my resources, then take everything you've learned "back home" with you. I'll say it again; I will spend my own faction resources on you to make you a better builder. All you have to do is show up and learn. You can easily save any blueprints and build mode templates to your own client for references and later use.

    If you want to stick to forum PMs that's perfectly fine but the learning process will be much slower.

    This guy is literally doing EVERYTHING so that you can improve and giving you everything you need to do so. What are you waiting for? You are a great head of propaganda with good imagination and good approach to work, now try and channel that into building and believe me, with some assistance, some guidance and a bit of effort, you will become a good builder.

    One thing i would suggest is if you know a ship you like try to get a 3D model of it and import into starmade just the hull and go on from there it makes it a lot simpler since then you can just worry about systems and interiors it's one of the problems i had i am terrible at designing hulls but if you get a basic hull it becomes a lot more fun apart from that there is little to do yet hopefully there will be soon.
    Who knows maybe you could create a life fiber fleet

    I must have started six single player worlds. I hated every ship I built. I hated every space station I built. I looked at the ships and stations in the community content and wondered why my stuff looks like grey boxes and nothing like what was being shared.

    I watched countless YouTube videos and subscribed to several channels to gain as much help and inspiration that I could find.

    My ships slowly stopped looking like functional grey boxes and more like spaceships. I am tempted to submit a small fleet of ships into the competition. My space station on the multiplayer server I am on is growing and developing into something I really love spending time on.

    Once, my logic limit was fitting an activation module to a door. I could dock my ships to a station or to each other but rails defeated me every time and I used to have ships that wiggled backwards and forwards for no apparent reason.

    I can now build drones in my little shipyard, undock them and watch them automatically attach themselves to a rail system that then transfers them to a predetermined destination on the station. Sensors on the rails activate blast doors, flashing lights and prevents other drones from getting in the way.

    One simple idea has led me to endless possibilities. Yes, I may scratch my head with logic still but that is part of the fun of the game. Yes I may get frustrated with some of the shortcomings of the game or the odd bug or two but I realise it is an Alpha and while I don't write the physical code, my playing the game and discussing my thoughts and ideas on this forum helps to develop it.

    Every day I learn something new in the game and I can only advise you not to give up.

    You should just keep trying Zectorsk , I'm a newbie here and have limited time and creativity but it's all part of the fun.Just build a ship the way you like it step back and look it over then figure what you like first and build on it,and what you don't like will change with every build(my sp world looks like a junkyard).Besides they are your creation and nothing is better then that.I'm also amazed at the help offers you are getting,this community rocks!!:D

    Having read this thread I can safely say that SM is not the problem. Some people may be born with a certain aptitude but Design/Art can be taught, learned analyzed, studied and improved upon. Many players have offered sound advice and a few even offered to mentor you Zektor, but you are the one slamming the door on every solution. It is your negative attitude that is holding you back Zect...not any lack of skill. A lack of trying will sink anyone's progress, even people with 'natural ability'. So...stop repeating this script that says you can't and just do.:rolleyes:

    That is the problem, I don't have skill.. if I would have skill I would try many times with better resolutions, then the last ones.But I am so noobish in it, that I don't even want to try something new, because I imiedatly know, I will fail.

    If you believe you will fail, you will. If you lack imagination and creativity, maybe StarMade is not for you and you should stick with linear, story based game.

    If you want to play StarMade and improve, your overall enjoyment of the game will increase. Yes, there were times when I might have given up on the game. I have tried several different ones over the last few months but StarMade has captured my imagination and my desire to be creative. If you don't want your ships to be lifeless grey monoliths then copy someone else. I am often astonished at the designs of other players and use them as inspiration for my own. Even a few blocks or a combination of different hulls, lighting, wedges, slabs, etc.

    Close examination of my ships and station will reveal elements from Lenscap, Drakkart, Jacemachine, Gmodism, Aceface, FuseMC, Sven the Slayer, Skylord Luke, etc.

    StarMade is an utterly absorbing game and I would recommend it to anyone who has an ounce of creativity and the desire to learn and improve. If you lack either of these traits, then you really won't get a lot from this game.

    In a game where the only limit is your imagination ... if you say you do not know what to do ... or already you get all the juice to this game ... or still have not explored everything that the game can give you ... i can give you too many web pages where to find enough inspiration for your new creations

    Take a look at the forum Starmade, there are many creations of players who are worth it, if you say you're not very good in one area of the game, take a chance, look tutorials, put goals to achieve, the greater the challenge you propose, the more fun and rewarding you will reach your personal goal

    Skill is something you develop, not get magically.

    Also, as someone said, build frames first. Just trying to build a ship will typically result in one of two results; an ugly blob or a basic geometric shape, probably a cube or some kind of triangular solid (prism or pyramid). That's even true for me, unless I pre-planned a shape that doesn't need a frame (like my recent Elex build, which was literally just a bunch of repeated shapes with details thrown on)

    Well ZektorSK, believe me if i say i get your point,
    its a Sandbox game and you can only build so many fancy sandcastles next to the much better Sandcastles of others
    before it gets frustrating/boring. The game in it current state does miss long term goals, so all thats left is
    (at least for me) the Roleplay side of things, the playing with others part of the sandbox.

    I must say its a special kind of fun to sit with 1 or 2 others in buildblocks on a design for a ship and just try to
    find a middle way of ideas.. what shape does it have ... where does a hangar go.. turrets.. how do crew quarters look.

    Its just my 2 cents on how i have fun in starmade, fly save and i hope you find your way to have fun.
