Sorry to ask, but I haven't seen much in the forums regarding the new carrier rails, nor anything very specific regarding what I'm seeing. I built a carrier, created a fleet with some fighters, then docked the fighters. After launching the fighters, I've been able to make them recall to the carrier. They all race off to some random point near the carrier, but nowhere near their individual pickup points they were originally docked with.

Next, I added some mining drones to the ship. I docked a test drone after adding it to the fleet, and did some testing to make sure that it worked with the docking system I had designed. All worked well, but I decided to extend the pickup point away from the ship a little farther to avoid possible collisions. I tried to dock the drone again, and suddenly the drone doesn't even seem to register that a pickup point exists. I can park the drone so that it's docking rail is in the same space as the pickup point, and nothing happens. I loaded a second drone, and it couldn't dock to any of the pickup points, either.

Did you redock the ship to that new pickup point?

You have to unset the pickup point in the fleet menu and re-dock manually.

Any time you delete and move a pickup point you have to teach the AI how to dock to it again. >_> I know very annoying but has to be done.

Thanks for the replies - yes, I did wipe their previous dock location. The second drone I loaded didn't need to be reassigned. Since both drones don't react to the pickup point I can't now dock them, and subsequently I can't use the recall command with them. I also tried re-orienting the pickup points in case that was wrong somehow, but the same orientation worked fine for other docking points around the ship (prior to this, anyway.)

I'd like to clarify that I view the fighters' response to the carrier recall command to be a separate issue from the mining drones. They weren't responding properly to the orders before I ever started on the drones.

The carrier has to be the flagship and can't be docked to anything right now either so that could be the only other reason I can think of carrier recall not working.

The carrier is the flagship, and it isn't docked to anything else.

No need to unset the pickup point, docking the drone/ship to the new pickup point will override the old one.

How about faction settings? I'm just covering things that I messed with when I had similar problems.

Good question - I forgot to mention that. All of the ships involved share the same faction.

By "can't dock to the pickup points" do you mean that nothing happens when you manually fly the rail docker on the drones into the pickup point, or when you try to issue a command? Because if the pickup points aren't assigned then sending a recall order won't do anything.

If manually flying the drone so that the docker is in the pickup point's AOE doesn't work then idk what could be wrong.

This has happen to me as well. You manually fly the drone to the pick up point, overlapping it even, but nothing happens.
I rebuilt the rail line, reset the faction blocks and disbanded the fleet and reassigned the ships. Something in there fixed it.

Right - I've tried to manually fly the drones to the pickup point and they don't respond. Also, making me watch all of your drones land so smoothly...that's just mean! :)

I just found a partial fix - I deleted my pickup points and shifted it over by one block. The drones were able to be manually docked at that point. Now, when I do the carrier recall, all of my fighters and drones do a dance off in one place. I suspect that they're going to the center of the sector.

hmm Try linking an activation block to the pickup points and than turn the activation block on and see what happens. Had something similar only happen if the pickup point was off. :)

I saw your thread in the tech support forums earlier this morning and gave it a try - that didn't help. I tried it again since moving the pickup points, and still no luck.

Eeew it's like a bunch of bugs burrowing into your skin...
Eeer.... I guess? I mean, I don't have a metallic skin and weaponized mechanical bugs here but ok.

It's at 6x speed btw. In-game it looks like an epic drone recall ;)
