(This part of the convo should continue in the correct thread here really)Mixing hull types had an interesting aesthetic to it, it worked in some cases but didn't in others. The new hulls look like they will blend seamlessly and with this you can create a ship that has a random panel here or there or a random panel missing in the case of a hardened ship. You'll lose the ability to have that distinct difference in metals between like colors but I doubt anybody will miss it in the end. In the end I'll reserve making any judgments on it until I see my mixed hull ships with the new textures. (some which look great in the current realistic pack and others that don't)
Yea, it's probably not a catch all method, but it covers a majority of options and prevents things looking too goofy when mixed. It also helps with penta / tetra shapes. Having a busy pattern really messes up the tiling with the current mapping to the block faces.
It might require more creative building to stop ships looking bland as the surface detail is so minimal, but i don't think thats necessarily a bad thing. Especially now we have more deco blocks (and hopefully more in the future).
