So the question was: Can you share Pierce, Punch Through, and/or Ion with your docked entities such as bolt on armor or turrets?

    So I did some testing:
It turns out you can't share any effects with turrets or other docked entities.

HOWEVER Turrets can share their Ion effect with the mother-ship:
As long as the turret has Ion activated, and has at least 1 point of shields it will pass the reduced damage to the Mother-ship's shields. And the Mother-Ship doesn't even need to have Ion.

So for turrets and docked armor, include the ion effect, and one shield recharger block.

Notes on testing Pierce and Punch Through:
My setup was a target with 1000 armor and a test ship that fired 100 damage cannon.
I fired my test shots at a block of advanced armor.

No defensive systems activated: 12 points of damage to Armor block, 50 points of damage to Armor pool.
Punch Through activated: 12 points of damage to Armor block, 38 points of damage to Armor pool.
Pierce activated: 6 points of damage to Armor block, HOWEVER 75 POINTS to Armor pool?
Punch and Pierce activated: 6 points of damage to Armor block, 57 points to Armor pool.

It seems there must be a bug with Defensive Pierce?

No, each entity needs its own effects.
Certain effects can however propagate backwards (eg ion via shield sharing).

Defensive effect do not work on sub entities. They have to have them activated on each on separately for it to effect each object. There is currently a bug which means that logic can't be used to activate effects. Only if you are in control of the object and manually start the effect from the control bar will it start. Logging out will turn the effects off. If you use logic to activate the effect checking extra info on the block shows the controller as active but the effect doesn't apply and no power for the effect is used.

With shield sharing if you have an ion effect main body and a different part like a turret taking hits the shield sharing will cause full damage to come off the ion effected main bodies shields. For the ion effect to count with shield sharing the object being hit must have the ion effect as well. It might be that a turret with ion effect by reduce the damage that is transferred to the main body, I will have to retest that.

The defensive effects not being activated by logic is already in the bug que T382.

lol I just tested this and then when collecting my findings realized a post had already been made.

Other effects people don't know about! Pierce, overdrive, and punch effects increase the blast radius of missiles, like explosive.
However, Pierce on missiles deals full shield damage unlike when linked to cannons or beams.
    The more you know!

    very interesting

by "turret" do you mean ships attached to a rail turret axis? or just any rail docked entity?

Do you mean Pierce, overdrive, and punch effects applied as passive to the armor, or applied as active to the weapon systems?

Wait so your telling me I can dock a core to a ship and put 1 ion block on it and as long as that the core has 100% ion so will the ship? >_>

That would only work if all firepower was concentrated on that one core block I think.

So WHAT IF the outer layer of my ship is all docked armour with 1 point of shields and 1 ion...... and is docked to the actual ship inside the armour shell???????? Would that work:?

Wait what? No I never said that, its the opposite. Passives do not transfer across docked entities.

If you had an armor shell, (covering the whole ship) and one point of shields, and ion, it would work. However, the shell would be pretty big (to cover the whole ship), so you would need more than 1 ion to make it work.

This is exactly how my USS Sao Paulo works: download it here and see for your self :)

And it loses the shield protection of the mother ship at 25% shields.

Ok then my understanding of how things worked was in fact correct. Good to know.
