Hey, may I make a suggestion to further improve your thrusters/engines look? Use rod lights instead of regular lights. You can get away with using a lot less of them. Also, if you make the ice two blocks from the edge, instead of just one, it should show up a bit more opaque. You won't be able to see the rod lights though, they essentially vanish behind ice.

Thanks for all the feedback! :)

Thanks for the tip! I tried out the rod lights thing but unfortunately that left the engine blocks visible and ultimately looked worse. I generally try to be as efficient as I can regards to system blocks, so I just lay the lights and ice right on top of them without an armor layer inbetween.

A small update! I knocked out this little fellow last night. She's not perhaps the most efficient fighter there is, but I think the design is rather pretty.

    Surma-class interceptor:

    STATS:
    Dimensions: length - 43m, height - 7m, width - 23m
    Mass: 125.8
    Shields: 1371
    Main weapon: laser cannon (Beam-Cannon)

And a little teaser about what I've got planned... ;)

Update ahoy! And a big one at that.

The result of three weeks' labor of love, Tuonetar-class dreadnought:

    STATS:
    Dimensions: length - 340m, height - 146m, width - 69m
Mass: 52,788 (61,064.25 including turrets and docked craft)
    Shields: 4,693,664
Main weapon: Four-barrelled ion lance battery (Beam-Beam-Ion), eight-barrelled laser cannon battery (Beam-Cannon-Punch)
Secondary weapons: 2x siege missile launcher (Missile-Beam-Explosive, three layered barrels), 1x single-tube missile launcher (Missile-Beam-Explosive), 1x twin-tube swarm missile array (Missile-Missile-Overdrive)
    Turrets: 1x Heavy beam turret (Beam-Beam), 2x medium missile turret (Missile-Beam-Explosive), 39x small point-defense turrets (Cannon-Cannon + Cannon-Beam)
Docks: 4x docked reactors, 2x shuttles in the hangar, 7x externally docked Surma-class interceptors

Can't have a pirate ship without a jolly roger, nay? :p

And a size comparison with a Loviatar:

The interior of this thing is absolutely huge, so I will cover it in a future update (and even then, I'll probably leave some of the most 'basic' rooms out). It's all finished already, but I just cannot be arsed to take any more pictures today, sorry.

EDIT: I've uploaded this ship for download:
    http://starmadedock.net/content/tuonetar-class-dreadnought.3602/

I am personally unable to give this ship a combat test, since my computer lags out immediately if I spawn another ship alongside this one. Obviously she isn't optimized for combat, but I'd like to hear how she does regardless, if someone's up for testing her a little.

EDIT2: Some interior pictures! I concentrated on the most interesting rooms to avoid flagrant image spam. In addition to the pictured facilities the ship has separate quarters for officers, crew, marines and interceptor pilots and numerous storage rooms and holds.

    The hangar:

    Engineering:

The prisoner bay, with three large group cells and four isolation cells for any troublesome rabblerousers with grand delusions of rebellion.

Navigation bridge - hidden safely in the very heart of the ship.

The gunnery bridge. All business and grim.

The captain's bedchamber. Blast door curtains provided as standard, concubines you'll have to get yourself.

Continued in the next post due to the image limit.

Swimming pool and showers. Gotta have something to keep the crew vaguely human-looking and bereft of the worst odors.

Medbay, including doctor's office on the left, ward and quarantine ward on the right, and medical supply storage on the back, behind those blast doors.

Munitions storage. Positioned far from anything strategically important, right next to the bar - although many among the crew would consider this poor decision on the architecht's part, if not an outright design flaw.

And now for the important part - the bar itself!

Dining hall. Strictly reserved for the captain and his cronies, obviously. Offers a perfect view on your quarry being shishkebab'd by the ship's laser batteries.

Interceptor pilots' briefing room, with immediate access to their fighters through the airlocks on the back. Just make sure the ship is stationary when you get out...

    The greenhouse:

Ah, the pitch. Whether used for good-natured game of inter-crew football or doped-up slave fight betting, it is sure to keep the crew entertained.

Medical emergency/competitor doping station in the immediate vicinity.

The pleading screams of your past victims getting you down? Come to the garden and zen out stargazing. Guaranteed to silence even the most tenacious shreds of your conscience!

And that should cover the most important bits. Feedback welcome!

Very nice (and humorous) presentation of the various parts you did.
I don't see many greenhouses or sports things, so props for adding them.

    Thanks!

As this is easily the largest ship project I've completed, there were times I simply didn't know what to do with all the room. I could allow myself to go a little crazy. :D

    New stuff!

    Kivutar-class battleship:

    STATS:
    Dimensions: length - 222m, height - 84m, width - 53m
    Mass: 25,532.6 (26,724.443 including rail)
    Shields: 3,720,505
Main weapons: 1x Dumb missile battery (Missile-Cannon-Explosive, I'm not sure how many damn outputs this thing has), 1x Dumb ion missile battery (Missile-Cannon-Ion, same deal as above regarding outputs)
    Secondary weapon: 1x twin-tubed heatseeker array (Missile-Missile-42.9%Overdrive)
    Turrets: 18x light point-defense turret (Cannon-Cannon + Cannon-Beam), 3x medium missile turret (Missile-Beam-Explosive)
Docks: 2x shuttles in the hangar

Dumbfire missiles might not be the best choice of ship-to-ship weaponry, but they're definitely one of the coolest in the indiscriminate destruction department and I couldn't resist the thought of a warship unloading two dozen torpedo tubes simultaneously.

And when I got going with the missiles, well, adding any other kinds of weapons would have been a cop-out, nay? :p

    Quite menacing, isn't it?

Interior pictures and download will be made available later, because I'm a lazybutt.

EDIT1: Interiors! Sorry this took as long as it did.

    The hangar:

    Main cargo hold, lower level:

    ... and the upper level.

The obligatory greenhouse to supply the crew with their berries and lettuce.

The swimming pool! Now with 57% more atmosphere.

One of three munitions dumps. I figured a ship that uses missiles as its primary method of offense needs more than one piddly hold for all that explosive shit.

    Food storage:

The bar. All that space rum has got to be administered somewhere!

    The medbay:

    Crew quarters, basic stuff.

    Navigation bridge:

Gunnery bridge. It's quite small when you take the size of the ship into account, but hey, it's not like all those dumbfire torpedos would benefit from targeting information anyway, right?

    Officer quarters:

    Captain's office and quarters:

    Theater/crew briefing room:

    Marine quarters:

Stuff I neglected taking pictures of: bathrooms (1 public, 1 for officers and 1 for the captain), marine equipment storage, showers and locker room next to the pool, those two other ammo dumps I mentioned, the brig, engine room.

Edit: Now up for download! http://starmadedock.net/content/kivutar-class-battleship.3729/

Dude, the progress you've made on these ships is INCREDIBLE!

Things I love: Exterior fighter docks, storage rooms with "messy" storage (not all symmetrical) the munitions room, the bloody sword logo, the exterior details, all look phenomenal.

My only critique: Not really a critique, since they look good as-is, but dont be afraid to detail the inside and outside on your engine bays. Adding some depth to the flat ice areas can make for some cool effects. Here's a bit of concept art to show what I mean.

Otherwise, keep up with the amazing builds!

Thanks! I have indeed come a long way from the first page's scrubships. :D

You're completely right about the engines, they could use more detail. I will complete this pirate fleet with this style though, because I'm too lazy to refit everything at this stage. :p However, I'm currently working on a single-ship side project (a heavily downscaled ork kill kroozer, for the curious) and I'm definitely going to try some more intricate engine designs for that one.

Sneak peek of that kill krooza I mentioned just to prove I haven't been slacking off. ;)

I think I nailed the fishy shape pretty well. Not sure if I've gone overboard with the spiky bits - properly orky, or looking like a chaos ship on loan? Note that the main body of the ship will be mostly bereft of the spikes - I'm only planning to put them on the prow and the fins.

It's very much downscaled from 'multiple kilometers' to 250-ish meters. I wanted the ship to remain somewhat practical, not to mention not wanting to spend the rest of my life building a virtual spaceship. :p

A little progress on the kroozer. With the recent increasing of the power softcap, I was left with a surplus of power generation. Doing what any self-respecting mekboy would do, I stuck as many big guns on the prow as I could. :D

    Flakka-dakka turret:

    one of three Mega-ZZAP! kannons:

I've also been playing around with glyphs a little. If one you fine intellectual chaps with knowledge of proppa kultur' can tell what these glyphs mean, you'll get an imaginary pat on the back. ;)

    Every ship needs a name.

... and something to let those pesky Deffskulls know what's what, or more importantly, whose the what is.

Finally, a little boasting is always good and proppa.

And that's all for now. Stay tuned for more on the orkiest build thread on Starmadedock*.

Another small update. Every non-escort WH40K ship needs broadside firepower of some description, so I've been working on studding the kroozer with some midsize cannon-beam turrets. They're not particularly powerful, and have a crap arc of fire, but the important thing is that they make the ship look ded 'ard, innit?

I've also modified the 'skraga nar' glyph a bit via some strategic employment of midsize slabs.

Well, that's all for now. Comments and criticism welcome as always.

    Needs more Dakka.
    Awesome otherwise. Love the broadside.

Another little update - I've been fiddling this and that, added a few more turrets here and there, but most prominently I've detailed the engines a bit. I'm quite happy with the way they've turned out!

As usual, comments and criticisms appreciated.

Look like the forum has a new expert builder in the 40k/battlefleet gothic style. Good job :)
